Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Salomon s/max flex adjustement

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
At the back of my salomon s max there are 2 screws, one at teh top and one at the bottom. There is arrow pointing to upper bolt saying "stiffer" and one pointing down saying "softer". I know this is for flex adjustements, but why do you have two bots, one being softer and one stiffer?

sorry, there are actually two bolts and 3 places to put them, the higher you put them the stiffer it gets??

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If the holes for the bolts are that close together then the flex adjustment isn’t going to be that significant. Moving the bolts to the upper ‘pair’ of holes will fix the spine of the boot higher up so there is less material being flexed, and hence it will be stiffer.

I would expect the difference in stiffness to be less than the significant difference that happens between a warm and very cold day.

Does it look like this - https://issuu.com/salomonnz/docs/salomon_tm_alp_wtr2019_300dpi/114?ff

Assuming it's the same as an X Max, the two bolts don't go in different places, they secure a rotatable insert. Remove both, rotate the insert 180 degrees and re-bolt. Difference is about 5 flex points. If the boot feels right in Winter, rotate the flex to the stiffer setting in Spring to offset the temperature difference and get consistent flex throughout the season.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

No - it has a weird two bolt system:

Does anyone know what that is all about? I need to unscrew both and turn this thing around?? By default, is it in stiffer or softer setting??

OK, I just checked mine - they have the position of the thingy so that softer is at the top, and stiffer at the bottom, so if I unscrew and rotate, it will be stiffer?

What's weird about it? They've used the same system for years. Just take the liner out and get a torx bolt to remove them - it'll be obvious how it works. There's a block in the stiffer setting that stops the boot flexing. By default it's in the softer setting that reflects the flex setting on the boot. The arrow pointing upwards is the setting.

So in theory, if I turn it around, tbe flex goes to 105?
