Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

When there is a queue everyone should make sure that the lift's full capacity is used. It is infuriating when at the back of a 10 minute queue to see an eight seater occupied over and over again by 2 - 6 people. The only valid excuse is for young children who need to be with an adult.

My latest irritation is to be joined on a lift by someone with a speaker blaring out music.

Any other gripes?

Stop being selfish and fill the chairs up!

If I could find an app that could jam/play Long Haired Lover From Liverpool over those speakers I would happily pay a weeks lift pass cost for it.

Never mind them interfering with blind skiers escort system transmitters.

That's what I thought when a young French skier jumped on the same chair as me until I realised he was playing Hendrix. Then followed a pleasant 5 minutes listening to Hendrix and chatting, me in broken French he in broken English listening to great music. The one and only occasion when I have enjoyed music on the mountain.

People who just slam the bar down. I still find it hysterical that some Euros don't lift the bar up until 2 seconds before landing.

Around here, where marijuana is legal, old folks and young light up on the chair ride. Not my cup of tea.

Someone once lit up a cigarette while the bubble was down on a chairlift. When people complained he tried to say we shouldn‘t have put the bubble down in high winds so he could have a smoke.

By bubble I mean the plastic cover that‘s on the chairlift for bad weather protection.

This week I was behind some bloke who was in front of the gate, in a pretty big queue, who then let 4 chairs pass while he waited for his girlfriend to line up next to him.

The letting chairs go to wait for mates is about the only thing that bugs me. Very selfish. I usually say something and carry on having a nice time - better to enjoy the day than get grumpy about little things

@rachelharrisonsmith, make that more general, people who hold their poles horizontally whilst walking up to the lift, and swing their arms back and forth do the pole tips end up at eye level behind them. Evil or Very Mad

@mgrolf, s'easy one, just lightly grab their pole at the top of the backswing and they'll pivot 90 degrees, works on bellends with large umbrellas too.

Panicky skier-types who try to pole away from the lift, normally by trying to jam their pole into my board in the process

Guilty of this when it’s not very busy - after all we are on holiday with family and friends and riding up is a good opportunity to send time together. Not cool on a 10 min queue which is considerably big to look at. The lifties need to take some responsibility but they don’t have the headcount in Europe to have someone in the funnel to organise.

This! And this is really the cause of empty chairs.

Unless it's a really busy queue where you can easily get separated from mates past the turnstile then the place to get meet up is before you go through the turnstile.

This sounds like a French resort problem. After visiting la plagne last Easter, the difference in queuing/loading compared to Austria was stark. Mostly, people choose to faff/wait/ reorganise/ make a phone call/ have a fag/ snog their partner AFTER they got through the turnstile, thus causing a kerfuffle.

Even if someone slams down the bar and bubble whilst lighting up a fag and making a phone call with music I dont like blaring out from their rucksack then proceed to lift the bar 2 pylons from the end and ski off to the right while sitting on the left and there is an unwanted ski school kid and a snowboarder who doesnt know how to get off the lift on the same seat I just think to myself this is still way better than sitting at my desk at work !

Chill out folks, remember you are on a ski holiday to enjoy yourselves !

Non-full chairs do wind me up though when it’s busy.....in the scheme of things it’s not worth stressing over though.....I just think of all the work that went into constructing said lift, from initial discussion to completion of the lift, and all the passenger forecasts etc that must have been discussed....and it comes down to a lifty to fill them, and he/ she just doesn’t, so easy to implement.

Not making your feelings politely known is not remotely "chill" and unless you like the things described, it's not going to lead to enjoyment.
Rudeness exists. Dealing with it increases everybody's enjoyment and "chill" level. Well except for the rude people, but then they're playing a different game.

Smoking - I politely ask them not to. Never had any trouble with that. The lifties will do it for you in North America as it's not allowed in line anyway.
Bad skiers/ snowboarders are usually easy to tell and generally slow to exit; just ride away. To me it's like people swimming in a pool without consideration - a certain amount of warning seems appropriate, but beyond that I'll win because I'm stronger than they are. No doubt they're "chill" about that too.

@marodo2712, I’m the most impatient queuer, and nobody more than me gets irritated by ditherers and pushers but it’s not a huge hassle..... better than a long walk uphill, best to ski smart and avoid queues in the first place and be ahead or behind lift scrums imo.

@Markymark29,

I don't mind queueing for the lifts, I people watch and try to place people by their accents and their language.

I think the most peculiar experience was queueing behind a family from Dudley - what an exotic and beautiful accent that is, it was the first time I'd heard it since I was a hotel runner in Athens with a guy called Steve 25 years before.

This alone accounts for so much popularity of Whistler, not just the skiing.

Astonishingly polite and efficient queueing... singles lines to fill up chairs, merging lanes which all take their turn when they should - it'll be a shock returning to ski in France one day ( been skiing Japan or Whistler mostly last few years...).

Doesn't happen as often as the others: people next to you in a chair trying to shout to friends sitting in a different chair ahead or behind.
