Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi all

Im trying to organsie a family skiing holiday, Mum doesnt ski, Dad loves to ski but is currently out of action with a knee injury.

Our 8 year old is a competent & confident on piste skier (red runs) but couldn't go on the mountain alone.

Hoping for a trip in March 2020 from Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Have looked at most travel companies and so far have only come across max 2.5 hour tuition for the day in a ski school but would be looking to ski most of the day.

Anyone have any advice? Any family groups or buddies we could link up with?

Not a great many families skiing in March as it's tough getting time off sKoOL.
As a result, they tend to be focused around Feb Half Term and Easter (When the snowHeads Families Bash is.)

@StewfromScotland, Esprit,Club Med, Mark Warner and evening Crystal offer family ski holidays which includes lessons and kids clubs to give you a full day.

If you don’t want to use that sort of operator, Austria ski school we found was setup to offer all day lessons including lunch but all day started at 10 and finished at 3

With Esprit they have a couple of places from memory that did all day ski school for children once they were above beginner. Gressoney was one - though they have switch to Champoluc, think it was the same (my girls are older now so haven’t been with them for a few years now)

Thanks for the info so far, we would be happy to go during school holidays but prices are sky high & availability low as we havent booked in advance Sad As we're in Scotland and still in Primary school, the benefits of skiing have so far have been seen by school to be a positive, not sure how long that will continue but....

I'll have a look at the Austria ski school as that could work 10-3pm, looked at 3 of the operators above but will also look into Mark Warner too.

whats wrong with the usual ski school in the morning for kiddo and then ski with you guys in the afternoon, presumably after meeting up with the olds for lunch?

There is only 3 of us - I dont ski, other half is out of action with a knee injury & an 8 year old who loves to ski so there are unfortunately no others to ski with in the afternoon... Sad

If you don't ski , and husband is injured ... why bother ? Seems an expensive trip just so your 8 yr old can ski?

Long way to travel down to pick up in Watford though. Go by coach from Watford and other pickup points such as Victoria Station in London. Also happens to be cheapest ski firm I know. Not the poshest but everything provided. 3/4 board hotel, kit you out with all your skis & boots, guided skiing, in-house apres ski. 8 days skiing where as 6 days if you fly.

Only two resort hotels, St. Gervais and Valmeinier. Valmeinier ski from the door, St. Gervais much more to do in the town for non skiers.

I would be tempted in this instance to look at Bankso
Parents can go off & enjoy trip to Banya Thermal pools or the Rila Monestry, a nose around the town, etc.
While the little one gets private lessons all day for cheap as chips. Or group in the morning & private in the afternoon.
You can get a pedestrian pass for the gondola to take up in the mornings - good chance the instructor will bring him down the ski road back into town at finish time.

I would be seriously tempted to miss the skiing for a year... go somewhere warm? go on a "learn to sail" holiday?
Even holidays like Esprit are likely the children will be much younger and not as competent.
