Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Flaine or La Clusaz for weekend in early March

Hi,

Looking for some advice on what resort (Flaine or La Clusaz) is going to be better for a long weekend for two in early March.

Plan is to fly to Geneva early Friday 6th returning late Tuesday 10th. We’ll be using a transfer service so won’t have access to a car.

Looking for a resort that has a nice variety of blues with the possibility of moving onto some easy reds.

Ski in / ski out would be preferable but not too worried about hotel versus self catering.

Think it might still be school holidays in France so which resort is likely to be quieter as my wife gets a bit nervous on busy slopes.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I would expect La Clusaz to be quieter, but not based on much hard data.

La Clusaz would be my choice.

You probably want to stay somewhere near Champ Giguet so you can get up the Beauregard gondola. There’s some nice easy skiing up there with great views and and further across in Croix Fry there are some really nice and quiet blues.

I’d be surprised if you’ll get ski in / ski out but you should be able to get ski lockers at the lift station which makes the whole process if getting to and from the lifts much easier.

To be honest both are great in different ways, Flaine might be a bit more snowsure - nice big bowl- La Clusaz is a very nice village- both are part of a larger area with lots of blues and easy reds, Flaine has some queues on the liaison lifts; La Clusaz has a 10min free bus to Le Grand Bornand - the latter probably quieter and more suited to your skiing needs- but no ski in and out.
