Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Suggestions - a few days between Les Saisies and Lyon or Geneva

We are creatures of habit, and have been going to Les Saisies when visiting family in France from Oz. Booked again for 2021, but thinking of staying a few extra days to try somewhere else, but where? We'll have a car, so if need be can drive in rather than stay in the resort (getting round Sat to Sat booking rules in France, could also AirBnB or chambre d'hote). Looking for suggestions - we ski red/blue, like traditional french towns, hate nightlife and drunken revelers, and dates are around 10th Jan, so need to be high ~ 1500 m to be reasonably sure of snow. Would love some suggestions!

Between LS and Geneva you could do Megeve. Or branch right after Megeve and go to St Gervais or Les Contamines. Or stay in Sallanches and drive to Chamonix. Or turn right and stay in Chamonix. Or turn left then right to Flaine. None of them very high but should be OK. St Gervais is an attractive town but not v ski convenient.

If headed towards Albertville and Lyon you could go really left-field to Areches Beaufort, up the road from Beaufort. You'd probably be the only Anglophone skiers there. Interesting small ski area, best known for touring. Not v high but COLD. Holds snow well.

Of those mentioned by @pam w above, Chamonix is the most like a real town but more international than French. Sallanches is a genuine local town but a bit of a nowhere place stuck between and servicing all those resorts.

Of the villages St Gervais is by far the most town-like especially in the centre, low but with good gondola access to the slopes above 1400 m. Quiet restaurants and traditional French bars rather than rowdy night-life. But while predominantly French it does also have a sizeable British contingent, a large proportion of whom seem to haunt this forum.
