Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Multiple families - Half term 20/21 - Where to go?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We have a group of 5-6 families, ranging from 1 child to 3 children, and have been in La Tania for the last 4 years. We have now outgrown that trip. So, we are looking as to where to go for next year (2020/2021).
Ideally, reasonable for beginners, good for intermediates, and accommondation reasonably priced at mid term?

We managed to find a catered chalet in Flachau, Austria for HT 2017 which worked out to about £900 a head including lift passes with Sunweb - there were 23 of us and a couple of spare bed spaces so we had exclusive use. It wasn't on their website tho so could be worth giving them a ring. Handily one of the kids in the group was young enough to qualify for a free lift pass and the kids passes were practically half price unlike French resorts where you pay about €2 less!
Edit to add it was a pretty basic chalet though with v functional food but did have the most amazing wood fired sauna. Found it on a different sure https://chaletbeyond.nl/wintersport/en/accommodatie/chalet-auhof-austria/#toggle-id-3

Try the Haute Maurienne - Val Cenis.

Adding the same as @nbt, it's a pretty relaxed valley with much to offer. Particularly good skiing for mixed abilities and age, plus the chance to ski all the way from the topmost point on blue and green piste back to village.

@Gugs2017, are you flying or driving? Transfer by bus, train, or hiring cars? Looking for catered chalet, self-catering, stay together or as separate families? Country preference? Which week/dates exactly (as that may dictate country)?

We generally self cater in San Vigilio which is part of the Kronplatz area. Good for beginners (the ski slope "Miara" is ideal for beginners and is served by a gondola so no tows or chair lifts to use it) and the area is good for intermediates. There are starting to be more British there but it isn't on the main radar for most, so not as subject to half term price hikes. Self catering accommodation tends to be fairly high quality (subjective view but tends to be WiFi / dishwasher / microwave / etc) and eating out can be cheap (pizza and similar costs roughly the same at La Bronta as we would pay in Carlisle) and can be more expensive, there is plenty of choice. Good supermarket (Spar) with a good selection of stuff for cooking at the apartment.
Accommodation cost? We try to stay at www.mareo.it which this year is costing about £245 per person for a week. I do not regard that as cheap. But it is within a few yards of a lift and easy walking distance (2-3 minutes) of the centre of the village. We have also stayed at Ciasa Ferdigg which is much much cheaper but especially with children I would say needs a vehicle.
Ciasa Valentin ( www.mareo.it ) would give 2 or 3 or 4 apartments of varying sizes within the same building.
Nothing is perfect.
It is about 90 minutes drive from Innsbruck but half term flights are expensive. We are flying Lufthansa from Edinburgh (different half term dates in Scotland and we live in Cumbria) and usually return on the Sunday. We hire a car from Munich.
It works for us

I agree that it can be a pain depending on road works and volume of traffic. If you can fly from a London (including Stansted and Luton etc) airport then I think there are quite a few flights to Innsbruck. If you can go a day early and come back a day late then you can avoid the half term price hike. It is driveable with an overnight stop. But on balance we find it easier from Northern airports to fly to Munich Verona Bergamo Milan etc and hire a car. If it were too easy then it would attract more British and we are quite happy with it the way it is.

Thanks to all for the information, much appreciated.
@The masterpiece We are planning on flying, transfer ideally by car. We are not to fussy about catered chalet, or self catering. We ideally would like to stay together but if that is hotel or chalet, doesn't matter. Country preference would be either Italy of Austrian, as they tend to be cheaper at half term.
We are ideally looking at Sat 13/2/2021 returning 20/02/2021>

Another trip we have done at half term is flight to Ljubljana, hire a car and it’s a fairly short drive to Nassfeld which is a good sized area

We've done Sella Ronda a couple of times using Ryanair to Venice and hire car - we tend to go Thurs-Thurs to get cheaper flights - or Sun to Sun. Italy seems much more amenable to Sun-Sun accomodation than France.

Have you thought about Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis?

Not sure exactly what you're budget is but it has a great mix of skiing, awesome infrastructure and is set up for families.

We did flights to Innsbruck and taxi transfer which should work out reasonably as there is so many of you. Otherwise it's doable from Zurich, Munich, Friedrichshafen and Memmingen.
