 Poster: A snowHead

I'm travelling to Fernie in mid March and would like to hear people's experience of snow conditions at that time of year. The resort is known for its impressive powder record but I'm hearing that it can often experience a lot of rain when the temperature rises, thus ruining previously mentioned powder.

It might be great, it might be warm in which case spring snow or it might be hit by a Pineapple Express in which case find something else to do like drive up to Kicking Horse/LL whioch might escape it. On average probably fine, localised bouts of "this sucks"

Anything is possible at that time. If the pow you seek is not there, Fernie will be boring and so you'll want a Plan B.

We had a powder day (albeit heavy powder) last week of the season 2019. So you never really know

@Ryunis, my assumption is that if the snow sucks off piste, then you default to cruising on piste, and want a lift system that is built for cruising. The nearby options (Red, Whitewater) would have similar snow/weather conditions, and even less cruising than Fernie, so not good options. The closest place worth skiing in such a condition would be Lake Louise & Sunshine. They are a little colder which could make a difference at the margins. There are many other, better cruising options (Sun Peaks, Big White, Silver Star) but an out-and-back from Fernie in a day to any of them would be a long one. Whitefish MT might also be worth a look.

I don't know, but I'd guess they are too close to have dissimilar weather. One would be trading for slower lifts, it that matters.
