Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mid April - short family ski trip resort ideas and when to book?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi - after a week in Tignes this Christmas considering a cheeky second ski trip in mid April , likely to be a short one 4 -5 days ( probably Fri April 10- Weds April 15). We will be traveling with kids aged 9 and 6, both have skied before ( the younger one is happy on blues and greens). Where should l consider which is reasonably snowsure for this time of the year and also not a super long transfer ( as it is a short trip) and suitable for kids? Good quality ski lessons would be a plus. Planning to fly and find a s/c accommodation. When should I ideally book - now or wait - given that the dates fall on Easter weekend?

Have just looked on Sunweb , some reasonable deals in Meribel, Flaine , L2A and PDS .. any good this time of the year? Also considering Austria or Italy?

@Bella2015, L2A is very reliable in April. Glacier and skiing to 3600m. 1¾ hours from Grenoble Airport, just over 2 from Lyon.

@Claude B, thank you. Will look into it. Probably should limit myself to resorts with glaciers ..

Not necessarily, we've skied April for years, just pick places with a good historical snow record, the Arlberg, Ischgl usually top to bottom skiing in April despite no glacier as an example.

Went to Tignes last year at the same time of year and it was superb. Mountainsun did cheap short breaks. Not a bad transfer from GVA

@Bella2015, Tignes would be my reccomendation, though accommodation Friday night to Wednesday may be a problem straddling both weeks of the Easter holidays.

Try these guys if finding accommodation for only a few days is a problem, as the name says

Not used them but chatted at the ski show and a few times over the phone and they seem onto it.

@Col the Yeti, @johnE, Tignes is an obvious choice of course but we just got back from there and it’s is quite a long transfer too

@Bella2015, I agree with what has been said on Tignes and Les 2 Alpes. Regarding the other options you list:
- Portes du Soleil isn't the best choice mid-April, it is generally not high enough. Too bad, because the transfer is pleasantly short!
- Flaine should be a bit better, but not the other areas of the Grand Massif linked area. And the main bowl in Flaine can be quite steep.
- Italy warms up earlier, it is definitely too late for the Dolomites, probably late for Via Lattea (Sauze d'Oulx), maybe still OK for the Monterosa (Champoluc) but that area is not suitable for blue run skiers.

Another option worth looking at is La Plagne, with a large area of fairly easy pistes above 1800m. Transfer is a fair bit shorter than for Tignes.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@balso, thank you. Definitely will add La Plagne to the list ( went there last Xmas, great resort and my eldest absolutely loved the kids fun slope, and now l think my little one can try it too)
Any insights into Austria? Haven’t been there much. Also Cervinia still good in Easter?

As it's an odd duration, there won't be any last minute deals to jump on, so if you see something within budget, I'd try and book now.

As its school hols, flights will likely only increase as dates approach and cheaper options on accommodation will be less available.

The only advantage of leaving it later is being able to have more idea what snow conditons will be like, but you can probably cover that by going for somewhere the snow lingers longer.

As already suggested MountainSun will probably be the cheapest as they will throw in transfers

@Whitegold, will add Lech and Les Menuires to my list.

Mountainsun and skiweekends seem to focus on catered options so may not be best for me as we want self catering

@Bella2015, la Tania is worth a look as well, whilst low it’s north facing and one gondola away from Courchevel. We’ve been able to ski to the bottom in April many times. Take a look here for accommodation suggestions

@kitenski, thank you. Looks good. Perhaps an option to keep in mind if we book closer to the date to have better idea of the snow coverage at the time
