Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Conditions in St. Anton

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi there - I am going to St. Anton for the first time in the first week of February. It looks like it has been a pretty slow start to the season from a snow perspective? Anyone there who can shed any light? Also, any idea when the next big dump of snow is expected?

Thanks!
Grant

Check the link above for current conditions.

First week in February? That’s 3 weeks away. Anything could happen over that period.

@SpursMof, try https://wepowder.com/en or https://www.snow-forecast.com/. They both tend to be somewhat over optimistic about the amount of snow, though to be fair there is a difference between the amount that falls and the amount we experience lying on the ground due to a number of reasons. Morris @ wepowder posts regular forecasts which feature "powder alerts". The weather thread here has a lot of info but the focus tends to be on various graphs which are perhaps of less interest to someone just wanting to know "is it going to snow next weekend".

Yes the graphs are just there for the pretty patterns and colours. Bit like a knitting thread for a xmas jumper with lots of snowflakes

@polo, Very Happy whist great if you are into it many folk would prefer not to have to spend time disentangling the various bits of string and are happy with a more "traditional" weather forecast.

Take snow-forecast (GFS), every 6hrs it shows one run from the 3rd best model. It probably drives 80-90% of all weather based apps and websites. Not very useful as a stand alone indicator in my view, when you have easy access to several other models and all the ensembles. The more data the better in terms of confidence, and hence avoiding disappointment.

I get what you're saying about over-complicating the message on a snow forum.... you should try reading the real weather geeks over on netweather.tv to see that we're just scratching the surface here.

No one should have to spend time disentangling the dangly bits.....pressure graphs are easy to read with a little practice, and often accompanied by a line or two of explanation.
Some people are interested, others less so....they can skip over it all. Maybe more people should ask questions....lot's of knowledgeable posters around.
