A very concerning read, as more and more resorts forced to close. Skiing gets more expensive and less accessible in Europe.

Not sure resorts are so gullible as to invest millions of euro on unnecessary snow canons if there was not real evidence of a change

I know of two, both are small lifts in villages both shutdown due to Health and Safety costs, absolutely nothing to do with climate.

There's a man who doesn't know the difference between weather and climate.  But yes, some little places have closed because of lack of demand for little places with just a few runs and drag lifts.

@mikeycharlton, @boredsurfin, Yes there are, and while lifts may shut due to non-climate-related reasons, there is no point in re-investing in new uplifts in an area where the conditions are sketchy at best. Some around here continue to attract visitors in summer or for ski touring, but lift infrastructure has now been removed.

The Alps have huge areas of very high altitude slopes that are not currently used for winter sports, largely due to access issues. I’m sure that, in the future, if warming continues and snow levels get higher and higher, these areas will become more easily accessible and will be developed for winter sports. Skiing down to existing valleys might become a thing of the past, but new ski areas will be developed for decades to come.

@Austrian Seagull, You may have a point, but I fear Greta & Co will have an effect. Short term, La Plagne is about to invest a many millions of € in modernising and improving links to and on the Glacier. ( Which is currently closed for around 60% of the season due to bad weather!)
