Poster: A snowHead
|
Heading back to Sauze in a few weeks and wanted to get a few ideas for nice lunches. Tend to prefer off the beaten track options with focus on quality food (thinking like when we used to go to La Plagne our favourite lunch stop was Forperet - their plat du jour always hit the spot).
So far have enjoyed Clot Bourget on the Sauze side, but would be grateful for any recommendations across the whole area.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Also a vote for Ciao Pais! (off red 29) Great for a drink on the way home too.
I love Cicci's House (halfway down Red 12), but it's not off the beaten track. Ski schools lunch there (upstairs), but downstairs/outside still has loads of space
Also Bar Basset - the only cafe in the Bowl (you reach it from the blue Boulevard from Sauze side, and one of the reds from Sestriere side, but can't remember which one) - they do the BEST chocolate and almond torte in the Via Lattea (in my view)
There's a new restaurant - La Marmotte (might have spelled that wrong) - it's on the right as you come down red 11 from the top. Can't remember the name of the lift it's off, but it's the 3 man chair which you get on after you've got on Clotes and the one straight after that... It's huge, and modern in design - you can't miss it!
We only had a drink there, but it looked lovely, and definitely somewhere where the focus would be on good food.

@WoottonBecs, the lift is Triplex. opening times are "variable".
other places i recommend:
Raggio di sole, Sestriere, by the upper lake off 68 bis andbright of la blu on the map.(good WiFi& music too!)
Chalmettes, off 71 alta in sansicario (look fir the banner on the trees left side of piste.
both are not marked on the piste map.
Ciao Pais is 'booking strongly advised'

Seems like ages ago now, but we did make it to Caio Pais and had a great lazy lunch/afternoon there on the terrace. Despite being low season, and what was a bit of a muddy trudge from the piste due to the significant melt by late March, the place was absolutely heaving!
Will be back there again for a few days early Dec, and should be more snow this time judging by this pic Ciao Pais posted on Monday (so long as there isn't a mini heatwave in the next 10 days!) https://www.facebook.com/ciaopais/photos/pb.137338636331362.-2207520000.0./2680896788642188/?type=3&theater
Have heard more good things about La Marmotte, so might give that one a try this time.
