Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Gimbal for iPhone

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Was debating whether to get a go pro and from most people’s advice a gimbal seems to be a good thing to get rather than head, helmet, backpack, ski pole mounts.

I’m wondering if instead of splashing the cash on a new GoPro and associated items I would be better off getting a gimbal for my iPhones in the family. X, 8+and 6s.

Does anyone have any experience of these for skiing with an iPhone before I wander into an Apple store with a ski glove on to try them all out?

Appreciate it may be worth buying a thin pair of touch gloves for when I am doing some filming?

It’s just for our memories. My 11 year old made a video last year but it didn’t include any skiing (huskies, Norwegian trains, breakfast buffet, pizza scissors made it in) but the little ski footage we took was nausea inducing.

It depends what you want to shoot. I very rarely see people using phones to take snow videos, but maybe I mix with the wrong people. I would look at a few user videos taken using that approach and see if you like what they captured.

In my view, phone lenses are not wide enough for videoing yourself (GoPros are better), and not long enough for capturing other people (camcorders or a DSLR is better). If it's what you've got, it's what you've got. O'm not sure why you'd bother stabilising it - just hold it steady and have people ski past you.

Don't forget to mount the phone in landscape (not portrait) mode, and to overexpose a bit.

Without doubt GoPro's are the best action cam out there but come with a hefty price tag, I wanted a cam "just for memories" as we are going skiing with children, and grandchildren in January ended up buying an AKASO V50 Pro SE from Amazon. It's been on and off special offer normally £129.99 down to £103.91 for the last 10 days. I have been testing over the last few days and have been very impressed with the results. Taking with me to the PSB to get practice before we go with the family in January.
Edit: My iPhone 6s suffers terribly in the cold and just shuts down unless I keep it warm.
