Where do you guys get your skis serviced, if you don't do it yourself? I wany somewhere that will give me 1 degree on the base and three on the side and not detune tips and tails. Some places claim that they can only do base and edge at 90 degrees. I want to carve, where it's not too steep, not skid all my turns but the shops that I've tried seem set up to do skidding skis.

Ull, I can't tell you where to get them done, but I CAN say that the service at 47 Degrees (London, SW6) was a bit disappointing.
Machine tuned and contact areas so sharp I could barely stay upright on anything flat. Had to get a guy in a shop to detune them for me!

Ull, Also ('cos you can carve on 90 degrees too) - get some lessons/practise at your nearest slope....

Get them done in a ski resort. Cheaper, faster better. If you give it to the ski tec at five he will have them ready for you by six or at the latest early next morning.

my past experience of resort ski service is that they tend to grind out any scratches rather than fill the damage and grind flat, not all resort shops will do this but i have seen plenty of skis turned into something resembling an after dinner mint by over grinding
either Beans or Bartletts do a good job, if you want specific angles and are in maidenhead, then Bartletts are probably closest with the right tools

All too difficult to find in both UK & resort shops I'm afraid. Your spec is exactly how Atomic ship their skis & whilst most stores say that you can specify ya angles they then just wack 'em through their machines at 1&1 or 1&2 etc with scant disregard to client's stated requirements.
Your best chance is finding a store that specialises in race tuning.
I'm no expert skier but I could tell the difference after EB's put a 2 degree angle on my b5's after I'd specified a 3 & been told that they could cut a 3. They later admitted to me that they tune all skis to 1&2. S&R also have a standard tune that they don't deviate from.
It's for this reason I went the DIY route & as you seem quite specific about your requirements then I'd recommend that you do the same.

The machine in their Sheffield store gives a set 1&2 tune. Don't know about the others.

Thanks guys. I've used Bartletts before and been happy with the work but they're one who said that their equipment would only do 90 degrees. OK, I could still carve on 90 degrees but, if Atomic turn them out with 1 and 3 and if most of the opinions that I can find on the internet say 1 and 3, I'd like to keep 1 and 3.

Well, I've just called Bartletts and they say they can do any edges that I like!
BTW, I didn't mean to imply that you needed 3 degrees to carve (cue for a song), just that 1 degree seemed to assume that you wanted an old school skidding ski.
