Poster: A snowHead

Normally I spent most my time off-piste. For lift serviced off-piste I use Rossi Sky 7 HD 188 and for short tours I have a trusty pair of Atomic Sugar Daddy 192 with Marker Dukes. I normally get 25+ days skiing out of London and have been skiing for 37yrs .
Now then, I think I need/want a proper set of planks in my quiver. I have little care for normal skis. I need/want planks! The Atomic BC 120 has been getting rave reviews for ever, so it seems a no brainer. But I have found a pair of Zag S-122s at a great price. I have skied Zag H112 and was quite happy, but I have never tried the Slap-122s. Finding reviews of Zags is nigh on impossible. I have been to their test centre in Argentiere, but in July. Quite a few of the guides in Chamonix were on Zags at one point - could not work out whether it was local patriotism or the skis were really that good...
So any of our forum retailers with direct impressions willing to help? My brain tells me to pony up the extra £140 and buy the proven Atomics, but my heart tells me that the little independent from Chamonix could be very good too...

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Never tried the Zags I'm afraid, but I've been on a pair of Bents for the last 4 years and I absolutely love them. Just so damn versitile and so much fun in the Austrian forests. Perfect in powder but handle just about anything, they can get a bit flappy at the tips on steep icy blacks but pretty much everything in that width will

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Personally I think its always cooler to buy the Indy option - even if they suck you have a bit of lift line cred (even if its only in your imagination!)
NB Chx guides probably get a very good deal on them.

@cheburator, if you are buying a dedicated of a pair of skis for the occasions when the snow/conditions are perfect, they should be something special.
It also depends on your skiing style, for example are you a turner or a charger, do live for a powder day when these will be used, or will these become your go to ski.
I’m a big DPS fan, so the DPS Lotus 124, would be my recommendation in 191cm.

both skis are great made in EU. BC120 is lighter if it matters at all. i would go with ZAG because i like the color.
