Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Shipping gear to France - tariff codes

 Poster: A snowHead

I’m a US resident, I’ll be travelling first to the UK, then to France making a couple of stops before arriving at a ski destination.

Given my circuitous route, it makes sense for me to ship my ski gear and suitcase ahead, shipping from the US is exorbitant but I have been quoted quite a decent rate by UPS for shipping UK>France.

What’s catching me out is the new requirement to attach a tariff code to every shipment. Has anybody dealt with this? Is it really necessary to list out each item in the suitcase and find a code for it.

What seems to be missing from this process, which exists for example between the US and Canada, is a code to say that shipment contains used personal goods accompanying a temporary traveler.

Has anybody recently shipped gear to the EU, and what was the experience like?

Thank you.

Yes....I’ve done quite a few bike parts and frames and wheels and...you get the idea.

It’s actually quite easy, with a table giving the different codes for different things. Mostly, ski kit would come under the same code unless you are combining hardware with clothing and odd items such as sunscreen. And underpants. And climbing ropes. And snowchains. The carriers’ form and label will need to list the codes for each class of object which you are including in the shipment, and its value. UPS has a good website for doing that....slick and easy.

there’s the EU site and then there are apps like this one:

It makes for a fun if somewhat repetitive evening’s work....

My sister lives in the US and I have to do
This every time I send her things- it’s tedious for sure, but if you use the webs link above it is t as bad as you think it’s going to be.
