Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Are diamond files and diamond stones the same thing?

Sorry, I know this is probably a dumb question, but are diamond files and diamond stones the same thing? I'm trying to put together a basic tuning kit, but have got confused. The tuning guide on the Piste Office website refers to diamond stones, but the things I can see for sale (and in the kits Spyderjon sells) appear to be called diamond files.

(I've been and done a tuning course, but sadly can't remember everything as it was a few months ago Embarassed )

Yes. (Jon does an excellent basic kit with all the bits you need - a good buy, or even use as a checklist)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought they must be, but didn't want to make assumptions.

Yep, I'm using that as a checklist. Well, I'm actually using the advanced kit as a checklist as that has the guides I used in the lesson. I'm now wondering if I should go with the cheaper guides and files from the basic kit. Any thoughts?

I bought the basic stuff, then went back a year later and got the advanced. Big difference as I see it is that the the little files that fit into the holders wear on a very narrow line so wear out fast. The bigger ones clamp on to the guides so you can easily reposition to share the wear across the whole surface. Little files are handy as a travel kit.

Diamond files = diamond stones.

Interesting. I'll probably be tuning skis three times a year and a board one or two times. Any thoughts whether that makes it worth the better guides and files from the advanced kit?

I just got the same kit - perhaps Jon can advise how, if possible at all, to avoid it?
