Despite the highest point where i live being about 140m above sea level, I seem to have been nominated to start a thread for this season........... I mean, i will be there in 7 weeks or so, but I still feel a bit of a fraud. I do know, however, that it has snowed to a fairly low level, so it seems to be time........

@Timberwolf, I'm at work, it's just a normal grey November day in Salzburg. Frau Flangesax, Kooky and Scarpa were out enjoying the early season snow (and wind!) yesterday.

Getting excited... staying for 2 weeks near Forstau over Xmas and New Year (and will be travelling around to visit as many ski areas as possible). Definitely want to hear how this storm cycle leaves the area, and where gets the best snow!

@Kooky, yes announced today. Plus Planai have announced 5 lifts open tomorrow including Planai West gondola. Initially it was looking like a bus or drive up to Planaihof.
I remember an early opening on Planai a couple of years ago. I went with Ange and it was great, not many people about, but opening day at Zauchensee the following week was total carnage.

Yep, first day fever can be quite something, people haven't quite got their ski legs in but think they are Herman Maier.

Webcams showing lifts running this morning and a fair few people on the slopes. I'm incredibly jealous and hope the snow manages to stick around until we get there at Xmas. Weather and road conditions allowing, we should arrive on 23rd after the long drive from Scotland in our motorhome.

Oh, can anyone clarify how to get a ski locker, can they be pre-booked? The resort website suggests that you can rent one in the lift basestation when you buy a ski pass. There doesn't seem to be the option to book them online though, even if you go through the process of booking passes online (stopping short of paying).
Up until now we've always just used the boot rooms where we've been staying, but getting too old and knackered to be lugging skis around and hobbling back and forth in ski boots. It's getting much more attractive to have a pleasant stroll or bus ride and then boot up at the lift.

@Ravelin, which village?. In Flachau you rent the lockers at the intersport next door to the achterjet.

@Ravelin, lockers can be rented at the Planet Planai kassa, just ask at the same time as you get your lift pass. They use the same card.
Edit to add, I don't think there is any benefit booking lift passes online as they've always been the same price as walk ups.

First ski day of the season at Reiteralm. Lots of race teams on the mountain. Sunny weather, hard packed snow. All good.

@HutToHut Thanks for the info. We normally wait until we're in resort to get lift passes, I was only really considering buying passes online if it ensured that we could get a locker. Being Xmas I'm expecting it to be busy, but we'll just have to take our chance.
