Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Oakley Hi Persimm (NO prizm) vs PRIZM Rose or Hi Pink?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
hi everyone
have an old pair of Canopy with Hi Persimm lens. Hi have dark eyes, so no trouble with sunlight, while i do struggle in the shadow/foggy/cloudy situations.

The lens i have serve me well, but was thinking to exploit some price reduction to get a new lens, and saw that many are torn between the Prizm Rose and Prizm Hi Pink.
Would I see much difference vs my old Hi Persimm? is the Prizm tech such a difference? is it worth the price? which out of the two would you recommend?
thanks in advance

Yes, the Prizm is massively better than the Persimmon and you will be able to tell. Whether I'd pick the Rose or Pink would depend on what other goggles you have (if any) – the Rose is a better all-round lens where the Pink is for limited light conditions (I have one and find it pretty bright, but it's useful for night skiing...). You should be able to get a Rose at least at a pretty good price, though I know the other one costs more. There are quite a few discussions on the subject if you have a search.

Go for the pink, I use black iridium (spring Bluebird) , blue sapphire iridium (deep winter Bluebird to almost flat light) and pink iridium (low light, if I can be bothered to change) best goggles and lenses Ive ever had. Never used rose, I’m sure they are good though.

Just a quick point. I was in the Oakley store last week in London Covent Garden after being frustrated by the yellow and orange bolle lens I had in Norway. It was buy one goggles and get one half price. Which worked out cheaper than buy one set of goggles and an additional prism lens.

I settled on sapphire and hi pink flight decks

My personal perspective would be:

1. Coming from the Persimmon, I found the Prizm Rose to be both better for highlighting contrast and more versatile re covering all conditions.

2. The Hi Pink would probably be closer to Hi Persimmon

3. The Prizm Rose covers a wider range of conditions. The Hi Pink is a bit better in low light and stormy conditions - but (for me) is too bright for bluebird days.

4. They are usually available at least 20% below retail - but whether they're worth the price, is subjective. Personally, I think they are....especially the Rose, which covers all conditions (and is cheaper due to no Iridium Coating - though doesn't look as "cool").

5. If the Goggles only come out in flat light and when it's snowing, then Hi-Pink. If you are looking for one lens to rule them all, then Rose would be my pick.

Love my Prizm Rose, simply the best low light lens I have tried, great in everything but full sun: not tried the pink version though.

An anecdote:
Second days instruction in Tignes was very flat light. The instructor thought I was skiing much better than I should be considering the conditions when compared to the previous sunny day. When he mentioned this I told him it was down to my new goggles. After he borrowed them for a run his comment was..."F...k me, I've got to get me a pair of these! I couldn't see a thing through his!

I am a Prizm convert.

After skiing in other goggle brands and lens, it was in 3V last season where I tried my OHs Rose Prizm Lens in flat light.....the difference was night and day (pun intended).

You won't be disappointed.

I actually went for the Torch Lens rather than the Rose or Hi Pink. Still get very good contrast and vision in flat light but still good for all but the brightest of bluebird days. IMO, it's more of an all rounder.

I have the Rose, in an A Frame....but I really wanted the Flight Decks, which I now have with the Torch.

IMV. Torch is an all round lens with a sun bias; the Rose is an all round Lens with a flat light bias.

Thanks all for the quickest and detailed replies.
Rose is tempting then.
I don't think I'll go out when stormy, but I need the best for those afternoons on the shadow when moguls need to be seen and snow is crap.

The Rose will work nicely....and if you avoid stormy conditions, so would the Torch/Sapphire/Jade.

Anyone know a good website where I can order a Prizm Hi Pink lenses for my Oakley Flight Decks?

Current lens is the Prizm Sapphire but wanted an option for those flat light days.

Thanks @Old Fartbag!

Would you suggest the Rose over the Hi Pink?

I was going to suggest them, but they didn't have the Hi-Pink listed.

Given you own the Sapphire, I'd get the Hi-Pink.
