Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I have a soft spot for Elan skis, I learnt to ski on them in Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia) and they were my first owned skis. Have had, and still got, several pairs although I have had other brands when I thought they were a better choice / price. Thinking of upgrading for the winter and although I have not physically looked at, or tried out, any recent Elan skis they do mostly seem to be the handed, rocker one edge, camber the other amphibio type. Apart from whether all this will make any difference to my skiing I was just wondering about the servicing, does it make it harder by hand or does it just mean your scraper sort of goes wonky as you go down the ski. If a shop stuffs them in a machine does it twist them flat to do the grinding and then they spring back to shape. Or am I overthinking or wrongly thinking all this
Just intrigued before I do actually have a look /try some.

Avoided base grinding (always a good thing) otherwise no other difference for servicing.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@spyderjon
, so once the base edge has gone "phut" so to speak, how do they get base ground without ruin?

I stick a short layer or two of a strip of skin off-cut on the side of the top sheet at the tip to 'square up' the ski base as it goes through the autofeed etc. Simples!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

OK thanks. I avoid base grinds anyway but it just intrigued me as to what the flat grinding would do to them.
