Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Wengen Station to Mannlichenbahn

Does anyone know how far it is, or the time it takes (walking slowly in boots and carrying skis) from Wengen station through the village to the bottom of the Mannlichenbahn cable car please? Also, is it a flat walk?

Welcome to Snowheads!

It's flat, and it takes 2 or 3 minutes.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Mike neglects to add that the height gain is about 3.5metres! As Wengen station is only 1274m above sea level the altitude should not create tooo big a problem.

That's about 3 mins in ski boots by the way

Shortest route is to come off the station platform by the luggage lockers, walk across to the staircase that goes up to the post office, walk past the post office and turn right, go straight through the covered area, across the high street leaving central sport on your left, just past central sport turn left and climb about a meter to the entrance to the cablecar

Note that in winter the stairs by the post office can be coated in ice so it may be easier to walk down the road, this extra distance not taking the stairs adds as much as a minute to the journey !!!

But the swiss were not generous enough to put in an escalator at the cable car station so may be another three or four meters!

For those who want the minimum of climbing take the passage between Central Sport and the Swiss Made Shop, this will put you closer to the Cablecar entrance, I would suggest however that if you cannot manage the short staircase inside the station that leads to the cablecar itself, you probably are not in a fit state to actually ski or board, on the other hand the Mannlichen top station is a pig to climb back up to, that could do with an escalator as one often has hard almost icy snowpack coming away from the main entrance which is some 3-4m above the otherwise very gentle area that all the other lifts lead to
