Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grass Skiing - Prolong your season!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Guys,

I was compelled to find out more about grass skiing after finding some videos on an old thread on this site. I made a video about grass skiing, but more importantly, I am looking for places to go to try it out around the London area. Wandering if anyone might want to have a go on the skis I brought back from the Czech Republic.

Check it out and give me a shout!

Welcome to Snowheads.

Can't help you with London locations but any snowhead with a connection to Hillend in the 80s will have a tale or two to tell.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks! I heard that they used to have a grass skiing slope in hillend. I'd love to hear any stories if anyone does have any. Do you know is that area of the hill is still accessible?

Welcome, bro.

Historical perspective...

Grass skiing (and sand skiing) pops up on here as a semihot topic every few years.

And then fades away again, when folk realize grass skis are slow and hard to turn or stop.

Good luck with it, but it will never takeoff.

When I was a kid (80s) my grandparents had a holiday flat in Swanage in Dorset. We used to find single ski poles occasionally on the downs above Peveril Point/town. One summer evening we watched a group of teenagers (uni ski sclub?) practicing grass skiing. I always wanted to try it but then I guess it went out of fashion.

Did it once in about 1975 at Limefit Park near Troutbeck. Those new skis look longer and fancier. Nothing at all wrong with it, although I can't remember how you were supposed to slow down. Perhaps if someone figured out that it'd be more popular.

(I dabbled with mountain boarding, because I hate the idea of having to walk down stuff I could obviously ride, but the problem with that (aside from the injury potential) was the weight of the board which you had to carry most of the time. I suppose I should look see if there is modern gear which is less heavy. The "One Wheel" stuff looks to work well off road, but I'm not really looking for a powered device. Hmm.)

I did it as a kid in Devon. Near westward ho I think. Loved it. But as mentioned was young and don’t recall stopping or anything
