Too Old for Japan Working Holiday Visa: Any Options?

I'm too old now for a Japanese working holiday visa (only 1,000 per year for under thirty yo!) and was wondering if there are any ski resort jobs that will likely attract a visa. Obviously snow clearing and assistant jobs won't but what about drivers or ski instructors, are they worth the tour company paying for the full visa?

I'm mildly interested in the idea at the moment and was wondering if anyone had done a season out there and was over thirty and had to get a 'proper' working visa as a result.

As I understand it, you can get a sponsored visa as a snowsports instructor, but you'd have to be either a level 3 equivalent, or have something like 36 months of teaching experience.

Right looks like I'm out of luck then... the tour company did ask me to apply as they may have hard-to-fill positions but I would imagine that these are for specialists not grunts clearing snow etc. Thanks for the advice though.

There are different classifications of visa for Japan depending on the type of work undertaken.

For example, ski instructions apply for a Skilled Labour Visa.

Skilled hospitality jobs come under the Humanities classification I believe.

To get a sponsored visa you have to show a

university level qualification PLUS 3 years work experience (hence the 36 months for ski instructors), or

No university level qualification BUT 10 years work experience.

An individual can't apply for a visa.

The company which 'wants' you applies on your behalf and acts as a your sponsor, providing a job guarantee.

So if you've been in discussion with a company(ies) then they will know the best course of action based on their needs and your qualifications & experience.
