Poster: A snowHead

Morning All
I am visiting VT for the first time on Thursday and I will be driving upto it from Chambery Airport.
I have booked Snow chains with my car. Has anyone any tip/advise on the drive up?
Will I definitely need Snow Chains?
Also as I am leaving the airport at around 11:30 AM roughly how long will it take me?
Also I would love to get a few hours in (fingers Crossed) in the afternoon if I can get there in time, so what time do the lifts start closing?
Thanks for any help

If you were driving up to VT today you would almost certainly need snow chains - friends of mine found them necessary last night and it's carried on snowing . In good conditions allow 45-55 minutes for the drive up from Moutiers. It's probably a bit longer today. With warmer weather expected on Thursday, however, the road may be much better by the time you arrive.
Most lifts close between 1630 and 1700 at the moment.

ajbaldwin, I used ESI last year who seemed OK, but Prosneige seem to be the school most people recommend; I don't personally have any experience of them.

Nice scenic drive up last week taking about 40 minutes but snow chains were not required. There're loads of places along the road up to put them on though.
That's a pic taken on the drive up last week, so drive carefully!

ajbaldwin, Prosnige were excellent for the past 3 seasons and with all ages!
The drive up is as Alistair says but what you may find surprising on reaching Les Menuires is that you then drive down to Val Thorens but don't worry you soon start driving up again!
