hi, has anyone done the ski coaching course for level 3? am thinking of doing it a gentle intro into the next season? as haven't being on any skis since april.....theres one running is sass fee in october.....any info thoughts appreciated.

I did its predecessor and found it fun. Lots of useful ideas for things to do with groups and kids particularly. Personal skiing needed to be at a solid L2 standard.
Wasn't sure if you meant the one that follows immediately on the same web page. Holding off on that until I am knocking on the door of being at the level. Finding I'm getting plenty to work on from occasional sessions with folk like ICE and Snoworks. I don't get the idea that the L3 performance course would be a re-gentle introduction, but rather, pretty long and quite physical days...

yep the performance course i would say needs the training week first, personally i would just do that to see where the trainer thinks you are at.... this is what i am going to do.... the zermatt would be good but to draw backs for me.... weather can be iffy re wind and getting up mountain, bumps - quite often its a rut line as no bumps to ski i think.....
hence my idea of just doing the coaching as enough skiing to ease my way back in, i quite like skiing gates which am guessing there will be a bit of...... i would say level 3 a big step up bumps wise.... not sure about longs and shorts, maybe just harder as grip higher in the turn and steeper slopes generally to cope with?

yeah, I did Coach in Tux at the end of the season. largely in a whiteout! There was opportunity to work on skiing, largely as part of exploring coaching methods but it's not the focus, and skiing itself is not assessed. we set quite a few courses, mostly stubbies / brushes - only a couple of courses with full gates (don't know if that is representative, weather was crap). So you don't need race helmet / protection.
There was a real mix of candidates from a guy that had just failed his L2 to a girl who was finishing L4. Some had skied gates before, some hadn't. Everyone passed.
For me the best bit was observing and coaching better skiers, I'm hoping thats a useful development activity towards the Teach.

L3 is a big step up in all strands, IMO.
