Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

metO Winter 'guess' now out

Sad Sad Sad Oh dear a mild wet winter for northern Britain. Not great news for wintersports.

Last year was cold, dry and calm but then evolved large snowfalls from February onwards. Looks like it could be a return to mild zonality this year with lots of wet and windy weather.

However that might be better news for the High French Alps and western Switzerland which tend to do well from Atlantic setups, but probably not so good for eastern Austria.

Yet last winter in Scotland was above average in temperature for all but one month (march), I've shown the deviation from the long term mean below.
Oct +1.7 nov +0.4 dec +0.9 Jan +1.3 feb +1.1 mar -1.0 apr +0.3 may +0.5 jun +1.5 (data from the metoffice)

I'd be happy with close to or slightly milder than the longterm mean in Scotland + more precipitation as long as we don't have rageing southwesterlies with summit temperatures in the low teens as we did a couple of years ago.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There was an old fell who is a regular contributer to on of the shos on BBC Radio Ulster who reckons we are in for a crap summer and a cold winter. The hawthorn has produced alot of flower this year, thus a good yield of berries come the Autumn.
