Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Haven't skiied in a bit, lesson first day back or wait a bit?

As subject says Smile it's been a while (good couple years) since I've been able to hit the slopes but I now live closer to a mountain and I have a season pass for the upcoming winter, and I'm planning to maybe buy one private lesson to give myself the best chance of having a really awesome winter of skiing. Lessons are so expensive though so I want to get the best bang for my buck. Should I aim to get a lesson on my first day back on the snow to make sure my technique is all good from the get-go, or spend a day or two getting used to skiing again then get a lesson?

I'm also planning to have new boots soon so I'll be breaking those in on the first day skiing too. Neutral

(Ski level: intermediate)

If you're going to be skiing a lot during the winter I'd wait a bit, make sure the boots are ok and get yourself dialled in with the skiing. Do some hops, stuff like that.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Depends on what kind of lesson(s) you intend having, but I wouldn't go for a lesson on day 1 if you have the luxury of a season pass. Wait a few days, perhaps focusing on making good turns on not very challenging terrain, until you are feeling confident after getting back on skis. At that point you are probably in a better position to take advantage of ski instruction.

Perfect, that makes complete sense. Thanks!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

As above I'd get back to what I thought was my level and past the early days muscle fatigue etc before having a lesson. Nothing more frustrating than being instructed in what you can already do but just aren't dialled in enough yet for. I've declined (free) telemark coaching in the past for that very reason.
