Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Never skied there but planning a day from Obergurgl at Christmas.
Please give me a route for a good fast skier to cover as much as possible in a day, everything permitting.

Allright, I did this exact thing on my one and only day there, and I keep a journal, so here are the lifts I rode, in order (I repeated some of them if I liked the run I skied): Gigijoch, Silberbrunni, Stabele, Gaislachkogl, Laugegg, Einzinger, Gletcherexpress, Schwartze Schneide, Tifenbachferner & Seiterkar. Dial up their piste map and you'll see this isn't the entire area, but a reasonably good overview. It gets you up to the glacier area, and there's a good cafeteria at Rettenbach if you're looking for quick fuel rather than a long lunch. I did this on a drive from the Arlberg to Kitzbuhel and it was really fun and worthwhile..I'll do it again sometime. If possible, try to pick a day with visibility, the skiing is almost entirely above treeline.

It depends hugely on the snow conditions, or it would for me. For sure you'd want to ride all the way up to the Rettenbach and also the Tiefenbachferner, and there's a ton of stuff up there with varying characteristics. As he said, it's not a place for tree skiing. Cafe-wise I think they're all basically crap, but it's Austria. They are huge cafeteria places at the bottom of each of the glaciers, but there are also one or two small places where you can find coffee and cake, albeit often with cigarette smoke thrown in for free. I heard they'd finally implemented the law on that, so it may have improved...

@philwig, yep, smokers all banished to outside now, finally. The terraces can still get a bit smoky, but you’ll be fine indoors Very Happy
