Mrs Noggy was hit from behind by a out of control youth on Wednesday. Evacuated from the slopes of Avoriaz (skiing anywhere near the hubs was highly dangerous with long snakes, 13+ long, courtesy of ESF, and much thoughtless skiing. The worst I've seen. She has 2 fractured vertebrae and is currently flat on her back in the hospital in Thonon in a full torso brace awaiting an airvac to the UK as soon as she can bear it. She won't be skiing again. The piste medical patrol said they had never been so busy. Avoid Avoriaz in peak weeks if you're not a strong skier - it's just not worth it.

As above really sorry to hear this , daft question but when this happens is the person/ party in any way accountable for their actions? Read grizzlers story a couple of days back , to be honest was kinda gob smacked at that out come and now this !

@noggy, my sympathies. Must be really worrying for the both of you. Fingers crossed, best thoughts, etc.
@Paul334, according to the FIS Code, Highway Code for the pistes, usually the person behind is indeed deemed at fault (see many SHds threads debating this at length!). But they've got to have been stopped, given their insurance and personal details, independent witnesses are usually required - and then it becomes a case of the legal people getting involved (usually via the injured person's insurers) in what can sometimes get very complex and lengthy. In my case, though I managed to ID her and get her brought back, only Mr G had actually seen it and stopped (anyone witnessing an accident should stop, but...) and though we got some details and got the Austrian Police involved, it was a bit of a her word versus mine, she didn't appear to have insurance of her own, and the lawyers weren't prepared to run with it when there were 3 different countries involved (hers, Austria and one).

My niece's husband broke 3 vertebrae in s snowboard crash at half term - nobody else involved. He was a few days in Grenoble hospital and is now home - he was driven back by my niece in their camper. He is in a brace, bored and fed up and grumbly and making my niece's life a misery. But it looks as if he'll be fine if he does what he's told.
