Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Faction Dicatator Skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Was skiing in Tirol on the weekend and rental shop gave me a pair of Faction Dictator 1.0 skis promisong they should be ideal for spring like conditions and all mountain skiing. I had never heard of the Faction brand.

They most definitely lived up to the promises and had a great time on them - very playful and very good on moguls despite their longer and wider dimensions to my normal 10 year old Head Peak 78 (previous generation all mountain like a Head Monster). They were great on crusty off piste, pockets of ankle deep powder. Excellent at short turns medium gradients on-piste despite the 18m radius, i tbink they struggled a bit on steeper hard parked and I needed be be well positioned to set a strong edge and they were a bit flappy at high speed.

I am a strong and advanced skiier despite being rusty off-piste due to lack of practice since having kids. I am unfamiliar with the new school all mountain skiis and brands. I am wondering if anyone has real-life long term experience with Faction skiis and the dictator range? Difficult to find many reviews / tests of these online. They feel ‘easy’ / soft at times and I’m keen to understand if they are not too ‘intermediate’ in the longer term and if that was the case what would be the downside.

They seem great for conditions typically found in my home resort of Chatel in the PDS. My intention is these would be my go-to ski for most of the time and will have dedicated piste and perhaps wider skis for other times as conditions / mood dictate.

@Ozboy, they come out of Verbier and have had a solid reputation since the beginning - which must be more than 10 years ago by now. The Prime 3.0 and 4.0 are some of the best skis I've ever skied, and their athletes certainly seem able to charge on the fatter Dictators (which I think are also stiffer).

If they stand up to what Sam Anthamatten, Johnny Collinson and Candide Thovex put them through they should be fine for mortals Wink

@clarky999, thanks I loved them and have spent a lot of time trying to find tests and reviews online.

I will probably look for a set of dictator 1.0 on end of season sales which will be my go-to everyday skiis. But it’s a hard choice whether to go for the 1.0 or 2.0! If I get the 1.0 I can then look the 3.0 next season as a second set when I get back into off-piste in the future. They were awesome going down the acccessible side pista at Stubai Glacier which were a mix of ankle deep powder, crud, frozen tracks and bumps. Just wish I had more than one day there to explore that wonderful area (which I enjoyed much more than St Anton)

I've got a set of faction twinnies for following the ankle biter round at freestyle. Really poppy and fun skis. Great brand

My partner rides the Dictator 2.0 and from the feedback I have had, it might be worth looking at the 2.0 given your requirements. Too much gear means they may be up for sale soon (and have only been used on two trips)...they are in excellent condition. What size were you after? I can't recall if they are 175 or 179 but will check.

They are tested by Neveitalia : https://www.gearscore.co.uk/faction/dictator-20/2019/reviews-and-prices/

@Ozboy, I have thew Dictator 2.0 with Kingpins for touring and the Ten-5 (which is identical geometry) with alpine bindings for more day to day skiing. They're a fabulous all mountain ski.
