Anyone out there, or planning a visit? We'll be there 12th January for a week, plus a few days in Italy. Fingers crossed for some fresh snow by then, although next week doesn't look promising

Another bluebird day. Cold - It was -12c this morning. No new snow, but it's been cold. With the crowds gone the pistes have been groomed and conditions are OK considering. There are a few bare patches, a few icy patches. Forecast is for cold weather next week.

Yesterday was windy and largely sunny, the resort is quite empty but a lot of visitors bused in from Italy. At altitude the pistes are hard packed, and windblown, particularly the Chalvet side. Godrans is also patchy, but nowhere is icy really, just packed. The free ride area is crusty and cruddy.
The good news is that it has snowed overnight a bit, but it's being blown about.
Light snow forecast for the weekend.
Off to Claviere today in search of shelter.

Let’s hope more snow falls for you this week. I will be there on Saturday. Fingers crossed

Windy again today higher up. We headed up and over to Claviere; the narrow red link at the top was basically gravel, so new skis nicely gouged. We will take the black next time. Once lower it was very sheltered, so we did a few circuits, although South facing lifts were shut. The reds (93bis) down to the 2 mid point cafes were in excellent condition, as were pistes to the village.
Back to Montgenevre, all mid and lower pistes are fine, all higher pistes windy and packed down. The 4cm of snow was better than nothing, but it's harsh that there is good fresh snow over in the Maurienne.
Great Italian food and REAL coffee, why can't the French do the same?

I agree! the 2 mountain restaurants on the Italian side are so much better than the french ones! We always go to them for lunch and drinks. Have you tried a Bombadino? If not ask for one tomorrow

The last two days have seen temps above freezing, with cloudless skies. To be honest, skiing has been excellent considering the lack of snowfall. Around 14cm of snow is forecast for the weekend and Monday, so we may pop back next week, visibility allowing. Looks like perfect timing for you, Baps ! If you have an edge file then bring it, because the hard pistes do burr up edges by mid afternoon.
Unfortunately, bombardinio wouldn't agree with me, but we found the cellar bar La Touremente in Rue de l'Eglise to be superb, if a bit dear. Mauritzio, the owner, makes incredible cocktails, free eats before 9pm, and Corsican chesnut draught beer.

We got up early for once, as snow was forcast this afternoon. Piste conditions were really good in the Chalvet sector, so we did a few laps and headed up and over to Italy for coffee. A colder night meant the pistes weren't great there, so we headed back to Monty, and did most of it again, except Gondrans, which is a bit thin.
They have snow making now right to the top of Chalvet and L'Aigle, which has really improved things in times of low snow.
Visibility closed in about 2.30, and there has been steady, light snow for a couple of hours....tomorrow will be a cracker, now we've got our ski legs

We are popping back on Monday, but found a crowded bluebird Friday caused the manmade snow surface to degrade quickly. Now in Bardoneccia where most slopes are bare, and remaining ones not worth going out on

Sorry to hear conditions haven’t been brilliant cstreat. We are going to Monty for half term (16 Feb) and starting to worry! Still nothing we can do about it. Our son will be skiing in Austria while we are there - jealous of his snow right now.

Piste slopes in Monty are excellent at the moment well surprised to be honest as no real snow for 5 weeks! Lovely and sunny. Italian side not as good but French side is great. No off piste really. Piste management have to be applauded to keep them in such good shape.

Thanks belch and baps (sounds like a name for a really bad pub!!). Good to hear the french are keeping things up together. Looking at the main site, most of the blues are open which will suit me fine, though I feel sorry for the better skiers. Pleased for you Pete; fingers crossed for that big dump

Back today from Montgenevre. Snowed all through Thursday night and carried on all day Friday. Only lower runs open. Massive snowfall. Just what it needed. Fantastic for those there next week.

@Kay, good to hear - what where conditions like last week? Pistes holding up . . ?

Yes pistes held up really well despite poor snowfall for quite a while. We were pleasantly surprised, really thought pistes were going to be icy, but only a little crunchy here and there. Am sure the runs that were closed on the Chalvet side will be open after this last huge snowfall too.

Only some runs were closed on Chalvert side. Probably due to lack of snow. Many open . Pharo low down was icy. Am sure they will open with new snow. You can check on Montgenevre ‘s own website.

Lovely conditions now that we've had 60cm of snow, although off-piste dangerous and often wind-swept.

It’s looking a bit thin in places but still plenty of choice. I don’t know whether canons are being deployed - if not, they probably will have to be quite soon. No new snow forecast this month.

Escaped Serre Che today with Skevinski and had a great tour up to the Col de Trois Frères Mineurs, on the ridge between Montgenevre and Nevache, picked up a random Frenchie who followed us into the gully and got in a pickle trying to get down the step in the last pic

Aw bless him - I wonder how long he had been up there!!!
Back home now but great to see those gorgeous blue sky’s are still going strong. Great pics.
Thinking about it, I don’t suppose you were walking up the button lift track on either Gondrans or Observatoire the other day were you? We were watching from the chairlift saying how we preferred our choice of assent - that looks such hard work!!
