Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

'Transfer' La Plagne to 3V

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just booked a week in La Plagne, from the 23rd, and want to tack on another week (2/3 - 9/3) somewhere in 3V as mates will be out there, staying in 1550.

Got a good deal on a package, so flying on the 23rd rather than driving - even though by making a second booking we lose our return flight. We are expecting to take a package for the second week.

So outbound and home-bound transfers between resort and airport will be covered, but we will need to get between resorts. Which is why I'm posting for help!

I know we can get the Altibus from Moutiers to 3V, but it doesn't service EK that I can see. Any suggestions? I will speak with the tour operators to see if they will drop us at Moutiers on the transfer back to Grenoble on the 2/3, where we could pick up the Altibus to 3V, which seems most sensible - assuming that they stop at Moutiers on the transfer from resort.

Cheers!

PS not used Altibus before; good service? Hints and tips, s'il vous plait?

t40ora, if you have your own skis and boots, can get all your luggage in a shoulder bag, and you can ski with the bag around your shoulders, then you could ski over to to Champangy and take a bus (cheapest, but you need 2) or taxi from there.
My son had to do similar last year when large fall of heavy snow closed all the roads and stopped usual bus service: he was at Belle Plagne, but his "taxi" (me) was at 1800.

@t40ora, was assuming there's regular / cost effective transport options between resorts and the station - but confess, I don't know.

I think there are regular busses between La Plagne and Bourg st Maurice. There probably are to Aime as well

May I suggest you ask at the tourist office (isn't that what tourist offices are for?)

Alternatively try blablacar

@t40ora, I've done this before by asking the tour rep for the first company to organise it. They will usually have a spare company vehicle available on the Saturday afternoon and a member of staff will take you for official or unofficial beer money. Think I paid €40 last time.

You could also just negotiate a fixed fee with a local taxi driver. Around a €100 would probably do it.

There are regular buses from La Plagne to Aime, see here:

Timetable here:

It seems to be just a regular regional bus service rather than shuttles. You can book online here https://billet.vente-bellesavoieexpress.fr/en#/8c9c00c8-3b55-404c-0b49-b4d0e44ea17a/booking/1/arrival-station but I'd just pop into the nearest gare routière one day and ask the information/sales desk. A single costs 13.40 euros apparently.

Then train from Aime to Moutiers: suggest you book this very quickly, currently according to sncf website there's one available at 8:35 and another at 16:58 but all the ones in between are booked out. Still, at least with those times you'll get the better part of a day's skiing in one of the resorts Very Happy.

And finally bus from Moutiers to 3V.

That sounds like a head office private transfer rate. It won't be that if you knock on the window of the bloke at the back of the taxi rank who's got nothing else to do.

I had to go from St Jean to La Tania last season on a meter (insurance paying) and it was €260. LP to 1550 is half the distance.

I'd be very surprised if the local TER trains - those that stop at every station to Lyons, taking around 3 hours - are fully booked. When I have travelled on them, both midweek and Saturday, they have been no more than around 20% full. Half-term may be busier. But if you can't book seats, it could perhaps be that they are not bookable at all?

Midweek I have had no trouble just waiting for the first bus to resort on getting to the station, but Saturdays may be busier.

The ones in the middle of the day are saying "complet", i.e. fully booked.

I agree it seems very strange. I used to take a TER from Bordeaux to Arcachon and they didn't have seat reservations at all (people ended up standing). Indeed if you click one of the ones that still are taking bookings, it will tell you that you can't book a seat. It's possible of course that enough people have booked to make them take no more reservations, but on a local TER that would be surprising, I agree.

Still, in such a case I think I'd book the 16h58 one and not risk being stuck in Aime for several hours (not exactly an exciting place).
