Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Puzzled Puzzled Early March is an ideal time to ski.

It is a good time to ski, but early February for me as an ideal time, before 1/2 term. I am however skiing from the 5th to the 14th this year. I am a bit concerned over the temps obviously, however looks like a bit of snow arriving in the first week of March so we should be ok. (sorry this is Zermatt- check Sauze out). My first ever ski trip with school was in late March, and we had to take a minibus up the mountain, and learn by walking uphill, (no lifts), as there was no snow in the low resort (seefeld). Despite this I am still skiing 50 years later. I am averse to late skiing though unless booked in the week we are going, and conditions are certain.

In terms of average depth of snow I'd bet that the figures show early March to be much better than early February. But of course, years are different!

I've been able to ski on every single ski trip between the months of November and April
The only time I've not been able to ski on a particular day was when there was 2.8m of snow on piste.
I got a full 6 days skiing in PdS when Les Gets was totally grass.
I got a full 8 days skiing in the Dolomites when it was +8C

Last week of Feb / First week of March are probably the best base snow depths of the season, regardless. Enjoy the Sun - there'll be loads of snow underfoot.

@andy, I would argue that snow depth is not an accurate indicator for how enjoyable the skiing will be. The snow might well be deep enough but alternating between ice in the morning and rock salt moguls in the afternoon is not ideal skiing conditions. At least, it isn't for me.
