Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@WASHOUT, ...'fraid we don't have one going at the moment (we have loads on the go) but can make three recommendations:

Lightest, for arrest only. Camp Corsa - unbelievably light - Sandvik alloy head. only 7oz. Black Diamond imply they are sh+t - they are not.
Strong and light - able to cut steps, arrest, do technical belay - Grivel AirTech
In between - Black Diamond Raven Ultra - on offer at Snow and Rock for 68.00 right now.

@WASHOUT, I would give a personal recommendation to the Petzl Glacier Literide, good balance of lightweight, function and value.

@WASHOUT, +1 for the petzl ride , short enough to actually fit inside avi pocket of most touring backpacks which is useful sometimes . the gravel air tech is a work of art but more for true ski mountaineering , but I found for the actual time ive used one the smallest and most compact has been the best for the job on day tours and lift served stuff as it can stay in the bag while moving around resort

where are you doing your intro course mate

@WASHOUT, thanks for letting us know what you went for....that's a great choice and will serve well. I have never regretted buying the right gear and not skimping, even if I have to wince when I get the card out. Reason?....in extremis, on the hill, in a situation which you thought wouldn't happen but does, the right kit is extremely important.....have a great time.
