Trying to decide whether to hire a car or take a taxi for the transfer from Innsbruck to Lech on March 10th. Cost not the main priority, we are taking kids and quite fancy being able to stop for lunch on the way, but not if it’s going to be too much hasslle on the roads. Looking for advice / experiences - thanks!

No reason why there should be any hassle on the roads. Innsbruck to the Arlberg is most times problem free (normally the place for queues is coming from the other direction at Bludenz). Assuming no return to blizzards then going over the Arlberg pass is no problem (come off the autobahn just before the tunnel at St Anton turnoff). If for any reason you are worried about road conditions take the tunnel (cost €10 ish I seem to remember) come off at the first exit after the tunnel, Langen and drive back to Stuben and then onto Lech.
Not sure about a good lunch spot. There are a couple of service stations but probably not what you are looking for. Landeck is not a bad place but maybe hassle to find somewhere to park before wandering around the centre. Depending on what time you arrive both St Christoph and Stuben have good lunch places.

It's a dead easy drive.
A big chunk of it on motorway till you start heading up into the mountains.
Takes about an hour and 20. I regularly go skiing there from London just for the day as a cheapskate ski fix.
Fly in/rent car/drive up/ski/eat/drive back to airport
Even when weather is bad roads are well gritted and any car will have winter tyres on.
Snowchains are in the boot. Done this trip about 20 times and never needed them.
St Anton is half way up the mountain if you fancy a ski (or lunch) there. You can't beat lech though for guaranteed snow.

@Soozm, get a taxi. Much less hassle for same cost (ish). Would agree with @londonbg, better to lunch in Lech instead of the road journey. It will only take 90 minutes so not long at all.

Roads should be straightforward, but nowhere really springs to mind to stop for lunch on the way. St Anton maybe, but parking likely to be an issue; or Landeck or Imst but probably similar. TBH I'd either go straight to Lech or eat somewhere in Innsbruck. Drive should only be around 1.5 hours.

As said, it normally is an easy drive. Just be sure to have a reliable company, in case of snow.
Don’t go with Taxi Der Lecher, they are good, but extremely expensive. We always go with Innsbruck based Gangl Transfer. Great company. 180 euro one way. 1 hour 20 minutes.
Lunch in Lech, or a quick bite at the airport, it’s quite acceptable. There is a serviced area behind the self-service
