Hi folks, having a great week in Obergurgl but weather looking a bit ropey tomorrow. Rep has suggested bussing down to Sölden for the day. Anyone done this, worthwhile trip?
Any top tips much appreciated (even its “just stay in the Nederhutte all day instead”!)

If I'm skiing Obergurgl for a week I'll spend a day in Solden. I actually prefer Obergurgl as an area but there's some good runs in Solden. It's easy to get a bus down the valley, I wouldn't spend money on the tour company taking me in a coach. If the weather forecast is bad for Obergurgl then I'd expect it to be much the same in Solden.

Solden is worth it just for the change or scenery/variety, plus there are some pretty decent runs. As @Valkyrie, says use the free bus service, gives you more flexability, and why pay for it when its included in your pass.

When we were there a couple of weeks ago the lifts in OG and HG were closed due to the wind. Solden's were all running except for the glacier.
It's worth a trip down if you want to ski, or even just hang around the town. Go a block back from the main street and there's a nice walk along the river, or use the funicular to get up to the beginner ski area for slope side bars if you don't want to go all the way up the mountain.
As others have said use the free buses.

If you are going to ski earlier is better as the slopes do tend to get chopped up and skiddy by the afternoon.

I actually prefer Solden to Obergurgl - much bigger, a sense of travel across an extensive area and much, much better piste marking than Obergurgl (which is terrible in poor visibility).

Yes go using the public bus don’t do any ski away day thing with a tour operator.
I actually prefer Solden to Obergurgl.
There’s plenty of skiing for a day I think I went twice in the week I went to Obergurgl.

Thanks all - I've organised a trip for 2 families of 4 to Obergurgl for the first time, in half term week. I was going to ask exactly this question, so now I know.
Any other Obergurgl tips out there? Nederhutte is on the list as we want to show the kids what real apres looks like.

If it's cold and icy and in the shadows head over to Hochgurgl as that gets the sun before Obergurgl.
Number 12 (red) down to the Top Express on the OG side can be tricky for beginners although it is quite wide so if they are comfortable with turns and traverses it may be manageable.
The better option would be the bus (I've had beginner lessons in OG and this is what we did as a group). Coming back is no problem as you can do it all on blues.

def worth the Solden trip for variety if staying in Obergurgl . . .just avoid the Giggioch area as it is usually rammed with beginners and wannabees . . .
