Ingrid Backstrom is a bit of a hero in our household - one of the group of women (Lynsey Dyer, Izzy Lynch, etc) who really pushed out the boundaries...well done her.
I did meet Lynsey Dyer briefly once. She is tiny ( but also awesome)

@valais2 I, too, had one half that size.
Mine was caused by ~9 hrs lying on an operating table. Nearly 100 stitches in my neck & face and doped up on morphine, yet still the only thing I was complaining about was the bruise on my backside!

@cardweg, grief that sounds extremely grim!

She skis a really graceful line. Makes it art.
That bruise though. Goes to show what lurks under those so called "pillows".

That bruise reminded me of one I got cycling. Was wearing baggies over lycra, lost my front wheel, went down hard on my side, hip, shoulder , head. Crushed my helmet, glasses snapped and cut my forehead but the most spectacular part was the bruise on my hip/thigh/backside. Had a bunch of keys in my pocket - not a mistake I've made twice - obviously burst some blood vessel in the muscle because over the next few hours I basically grew another buttock the same colour as Ingrid's. Took a few weeks for it to drain all the way down my leg - the whole leg went purple and my knee got stiff and swollen with the fluids getting past it.
Not recommended.

After ops on my elbows, my entire arms were that colour, from a neat line around my upper arm where i assume there was a tourniquet or something, down to my lower forearm. Left one was still sort of camouflage, with patchy purple and green a month later.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Many years ago after a bad fall my wife had a bruise that size in a similar area from a skiing fall. It took 6 months to vanish and every week was a different shape or colour. Twas a thing to behold; we almost gave it a name !
She wasn't skiing that type of terrain I hasten to add
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

You know it makes sense.

@thecramps, yikes...and @dsoutar, ... yes I recall absolutely the @jedster description of the changing colours - black, blue, brown, green, yellow - quite fascinating if you are not in excruciating pain....

I think it was Shane McKonkey who said IB was like a guy with a pony tail. Presumably he meant she a great skier, who also happens to be female.
Had to look up Shane McKonkey. There's a wikipedia page for deaths of noted skiers .
I came off a motor bike in my youth and the bruising, whilst impressive, was similar.
