Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!

Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I've just got my skis back from Jon at the Pisteoffice with some nice new Salomon Shift bindings, heading out on them next week
Switching modes seems simple enough, but that's in my garage without gloves on, it looks like it could be fiddly in real life. Are there any tips anyone has discovered?
E.g. switching to walk mode, can you just push down on the toe catch with your boot to flip it out of the wings, then use a pole handle to pull the front lever?
Switching back to ski mode, is it just a question of flipping the catch up back between the wings then pushing the lever down with the pole tip?

Yes but locking lever is pretty stiff so you'll need to bend down and pull the lever up with your hand, especially when the binding is new. You'll feel two 'detents', the first is not fully locked so your need to ensure it's fully pulled up on to the second detent.

Yep.
And when putting the heel in to tour mode make sure the heel is clear of snow and that the latch is fully engaged (you'll hear a click). Unless I was stepping in the binding in a sketchy location that needed the brakes deployed to stop the ski running off I'd put the heel in to tour mode when putting the skins on and I'd gently retract the brakes and then the catch down manually so I can hear/feel it engage.
And after setting the forward pressure/toe height push down on your boot to compress the AFD to ensure the height adjustment is fully seated. If the AFD drops a bit then re-adjust it.
It's a stepped adjustment with quite a bit of backlash in the screw so I'd recommend that the final adjustment is always upwards.

The brake retracting also looks handy for packing the skis for travel too
