Would like to take the kids skiing but 7 days too long given ages and given wife probably won't ski
Wondering if anyone has ever sourced accommodation with child care themselves? The only way I could sell this is if there was very nice accommodation where wife can enjoy being and where there was some help with the 2 younger kids (1 and 2 and a half)
Anyone any tips?

I've not been to one, but those Austrian family hotels with child care etc "built in" sound good, with nice stuff for your wife to do too.

Most French resorts will have independent nannies (ask at the tourist office) but a kinderhotel sounds better for all-round care. Though no doubt expensive - we could never have afforded one (we took Grandma.....)

I used to have dealings with this company: www.familyskiholidays.com They get a lot of repeat business so they are probably doing something right.

Not that anyone's mentioned on SHs, to my knowledge. From (not very much) observation Italian families on holiday are often inter-generational and look after their own kids. Haven't heard of similar French ones either - again, French families on ski holidays often have three generations.

Thanks for suggestions guys. Pam, you're so right - Italians so family orientated I think the concept of childcare a bit bizarre to them. My summer destination is greece and they're the same! No holidays for me!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

put them in ski school all day?
Some all-in offer child care.
Alternatively just pay for a registered child minder to come with you.
Thats what my mate does (luckily for him its his cousin!) & gives her 2 days off to herself to enjoy.

You CAN get short breaks with some Club Med locations, but IIRC they need to start or end on the standard changeover day of Sunday.

ESF usually offer a crèche. They definitely do in VT as my toddler is booked in.

I have a 6 year old and he's come with us for our ski trips since he was 13 months old (both parents ski). We've pretty much always done DIY but picked resorts where we can organise an English nanny (our preference). We chose this options as we are not so keen on the whole catered property thing as the accommodation isn't always what we're looking for and we just can't cope with a full-on breakfast and then 3 course meal every evening. We tried it once and so much food was wasted each night. The boy has been on skis since age 3 so now we only need the nanny for the second half of the day which cuts down costs but what was lovely before he could ski was that the nanny would bring him up the gondola and meet us for lunch and make snow angels etc. so there was great flexibility. We've been to Morzine, Les Carroz, Samoens, Le Praz and La Tania. This season we're off to Moriond. We've used Cheeky Monkeys and Jack Frosts (both Morzine), Snow and Sun (Samoens), MeriNannies (Courchevel) and have used the Alpine Nanny website to organise an English nanny for the other locations. PM me if you need more details.

@Mountaindoc, ballpark wise... what is the cost for 1/2 a days' nanny service? Haven't looked into it (my two are old enough to ski all day now, which is great), but we sometimes ski with family members who have a young lad which this may be suitable for.

@marksymoo, last season in Samoens it was £16 per hour (the nanny looked after two 5 year olds). This season it’s €21 Euros per hour in Moriond. Now they are 6 I’d imagine she’ll have to do things like make sure the iPad is sufficiently charged

We ski from kinder hotels but ours go into ski school for the day (5 and 7 years old) then when we get back to the hotel they run off to play with friends. The kids love the hotel just as much as skiing.
