Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I’m not overly experienced at judging conditions (been mostly lucky so far so Havnt has to).

If I’m flying in to Munich I’m mostly looking at Austria ... so where looks like the most likely bet.

Thanks for any advice

If freeriding is your main thing it is worth checking out Morris' forecasts on wepowder https://wepowder.com/en/forum/topic/265937.

The Austrian alps still have lots of snow as a result of the huge falls in January. However the very mild weather in February has had an effect and the snow quality is a bit variable. The good news is that the weather has turned colder, it has been snowing here in Munich this morning and plenty more due in the mountains. It does depend on what sort of skiing you prefer but I would say head for the western Tirol / Vorarlberg, eg Arlberg, Ischgl, Serfaus / Fiss or Montafon. The lower resorts in the more eastern Tirol and Salzburgerland should be perfectly OK perhaps Zillertal, Kitzbühel or Ski Amade.

Hi there...we'd also interested in opinions on this. Heading on Saturday to Munich with no accommodation booked as yet.

Had been thinking SkiWelt area but renting a car so have option of going further if required. Returning late on Wednesday night. Group of 3 intermediates and a second week skier.

Thanks

Cheers for that.
I like the backcountry /freeride but I’m travelling with my partner this time and she’s a novice so be cool to have somewhere thats a nice/pretty town/village and caters for her on pistes but has an option for me to get away to do the odd line here n there

@mdrumm, would be dubious about Skiwelt, there is a report on the Innsbruck thread suggesting conditions are currently not good. My experience is that it is not a great spot in March.

& @Rom77, I would give Serfaus / Fiss serious consideration, it is high, has a good mix of pistes, the ski school has a good reputation, the down side is that it is not a great place for apres. Ischgl also has a good variety of pistes and a fair sized area, personally I dont like the atmosphere in the "village" (though plenty of others do) and it is not cheap. The Arlberg is always likely to come near the top of any list of ski resorts, for less experienced skiers Lech or Warth might be the best options but again not cheap and access from Munich somewhat longer than St Anton. If apres is an important consideration then St Anton or Ischgl are the obvious choices.

Smaller places maybe worthy of consideration would be Obergürgl and Obertauern

@Rom77, We had up to 30cm ish around Innsbruck last night and more snow is due this week. There was more than that in Kappl and I think the Arlberg did quite well. I would head towards the Arlberg or somewhere in that direction anyway. Snow is getting cooked lower down, so I'd aim for somewhere with options higher up, though you might want some trees if it gets snowy.

Snow was better in the Skiwelt today but still not brilliant. Looking at the forecast, I don't think much will be open in the Skiwelt or Kitzbuhel on Friday.

@sugarmoma666, No sorry. You're probably better asking on the Arlberg thread as those based there will have a better idea of wind effects and which lifts are at risk of closure. I only ski there in good conditions as it's not worth the drive for me otherwise.

Base yourself at Innsbruck abd lots of choice from there. Great ‘local’ resorts can be reached by bus or lager resorts such as St Anton can be easily reached by train. We did this a few weeks ago and stayed at the Ibis which is next to the train station. There is also a great ski rental shop in Innsbruck who will collect kit from the hotel in departure day for a small fee. Skiing should be ideal for your partner and lots of good restaurants / bars.
