Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Transporting snowboard in a roof box

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
My daughter's partner is a snowboarder. There. I've said it. He's quite decent otherwise.

Anyhow, this means that, quite apart from having to struggle to work out how to edge and wax the damn thing (at least there's only one) I now need to transport it in the ski box. Now I did think of sawing it down the middle, seems to me that might improve it. But, failing that, I've been thinking about how best to transport it in one piece. At the moment, I am considering trimming a sheet of correx slightly oversize and tying it on. What do people who know what they are doing, do?

You have my sympathy! Toofy Grin

My daughter was the same and even got partly converted - now I have to take her pisteski + offpiste ski + that the iron board fit into the roofbox - not speaking of mrs. Hyst and my own skies. Luckily she only takes 2 boots along. Shocked

However, it seems one easily can take of this things they sit on the piste and work on all the time - that helps to fit that iron board into the roof box. I will just but that thing into a big black plastic bag! wink

Take the bindings off and a snowboard is easily transportable .

I was thinking more of protection for the base than anything else, or doesn't it matter for snowboards as digs in the base and edges doesn't affect the way they can scrape all the snow off the slope?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

just wrap it in a bag. If you want to protect the edges, then some cheap copper pipe lagging will do.
Otherwise make a cardboard sleeve, etc.

he possibly has a bag for for it, most with their own boards do, transport it in that, in the box. Failing that bubble wrap or a blanket?

I once transported my friends snowboard in its bag on the roof rack. The bag was quite long and we unfortunately put it on the roof bars with the board at the back of the bag and the offending passenger's clothing, boots etc at the front. At slow speed everything was fine but as soon as we hit some duel carrigeway the front of the bag would rear up in the most obscene way. Responding to the concerned flashing lights of other motorists we pulled over but all lashings etc were in order. It was only by having someone stick their head out of the window and look at the load we discovered what was wrong.

"or doesn't it matter for snowboards as digs in the base and edges doesn't affect the way they can scrape all the snow off the slope?"

Oh dear, as if this is true, considering most icy death slopes have about 95% population of skiers.

Anyway to answer the question take the bindings off and get him to ask in a board shop for a transport bag, most boards get them when they are delivered to a shop and I reckon most will have a couple hanging around. That will give enough protection

A bin liner and pipe lagging on the edges should be enough.

its gonna take more damage on the slope than in your roof box anyway Smile

I just chuck all four or five of ours in and give them a wiggle round so the lid shuts. Never done any damage. Usually have a 20km bumpy goat track as part of the journey too.

Much like their users, snowboards might be made of stronger stuff than skis
