Poster: A snowHead
|
I've just booked up with Crystal for the new year -
They have reduced the prices today - we are off to a chalet in Val D'isere for £500 each , they have several other ones around the same price to La Plagne - Val Thorens etc - all high resorts, get booking - it shows as a £1000 reduction on the over inflated Peak advertised prices. I've been watching for weeks and its the first real drop.
Merry Xmas

Best offer I could find was £1007 for a week from 5 Jan in La Plagne self catering for 1 person. (including lift pass and ski carriage) At £167 per full day skiing (in whatever weather), it does not meet my criterion for good value (even after the £62 discount). Flying out of Glasgow.
I ain't getting my wallet out, I can DIY much cheaper than that per full day in guaranteed sunshine in Scotland. (although the precise timing of that sunny day is not certain)

we are going 29th December and there was plenty of availability- had to go to Scotland but its the same distance to Manchester - we have managed some good deals over the last two years but this is amongst the best saving I have had .
Might even try and catch a pint with Steve Angus

Would you think that as the kids go back to school before the new year week ends it’s putting people off? I’ve not seen these prices for new year week before ?
I’m tempted to wait till 27th or 28th and see what’s available/snows like. Or am I kidding myself and everywhere will be rammed ?

Genuine question - are there really any schools going back before that week is over?
The 1st of Jan is a Tuesday. Are some schools going back before monday the 7th at the earliest?

Yes, in Cambridgeshire the schools seem to be restarting on Thursday 3rd. Some will have staff training days on Thursday and Friday, meaning the children aren't back until the 7th, but by no means all.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

One of ours is back on the 7th, the other ridiculously early on the 3rd, which is too bad as we'll still be in Italy
