We're driving to Tignes in April and I was just trying to sort out parking. Grande Motte seems to be unavailable for booking, but that would be our ideal spot as its right opposite our accommodation and we're in a van so the indoor parking looks troublesome. Any ideas whether this can be booked online, or whether that's just a car park intended for short stays etc? I presume also that some would take a campervan and park there for their accommodation, so quite surprised it doesn't seem to be available to be booked (or maybe its just full - though I can't believe that just yet). Thanks for any insights!!

Not sure what's happening there, you seem to be able to book on line for the covered car parks but not the outdoor one. In times past it has been available for long stays for parking. You are not allowed to live in a camper van in any of the Tignes villages. I will see if I can find out for you.

@larkim, I spoke to the Car Park guy for you, the GM car park will not be available on line, the problem is snow clearance and guaranteeing the number of spaces so they prefer to fill the indoor car parks first and keep the GM for day visitors. As it is the same price this year as an indoor one and if your wag is less than 2.1m I would book it into the Golf Parking, you will be able to drop your luggage off on the pavement if your accom is on the front, leave it with someone and you can park the vehicle and be back in 5 mins or so (via the Plattieres lift). Also you will not have any worries about digging it out when it snows on your holiday(  ) or it waxing up if its an oil burner.

Cheers both - that all makes sense. I can see why they don't want to guarantee parking spots in the event of a dump of snow, even in April.
Van is 1.92 tall so as long as we don't need the roofbox and bars we'd be OK indoors. And if its 85Euros indoors or out I agree indoors sounds a better option.

If u r up for parking for free and saving a few quid, you can use the free car parks at Les Boisses or Les Brevieres.
Easy enough to use either, with connections by bus/ski lift/piste, depending on arrival/departure time. Or parking and paying for an overnight in Val Claret at each end of the trip will still save a few quid.

@mountainaddict, Just NB there may not be as many places in Boissess this year. They have banned parking on the road down to Hauts Boisses (the road from the top of the newish gorge down to the Melezes etc). Likewise the parking between the 2 big blocks of accommodation for locals (accessed from the garage) is now barrier controlled and requires a token from the Parking People with relevant paperwork. There are still free car parks in Boisses and Brev but the Brev one in particular is quite small.

It depends how high your car is: for example, on a Vx220*there actually is a snowHead who turns up at bashes in one of these with his skis mounted on top

I parked in parking du golf in a 1.9m van with no roof box. I do not recall there being a headroom issue, not even a tight fit. There was a problem with the slope, which required me to put some wedges in the lower wheels so the van was not parked on a slope. However, I did not park on the first level which was level. (no spaces)

Not strictly a Tignes related issue, but we had a car with a roofbox which would have fallen foul of the parking in Flaine. We simply removed the (now emptied) roofbox before driving the car in, and then stored it behind the car in the parking bay. Depending on how heavy your roofbox is / how accessible accommodation is to empty it prior to parking, its a 10 minute hassle which shouldn't stop you using the indoor carparks.
