Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Weekday transfers: Geneva/Lyon to Meribel?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi everyone, asking in here as am slightly stuck!

I am a recent ski seasonnaire (big up Megeve!), who's just started Med School and is desperate to head out to Meribel for a couple of days to visit my ex-roommate who is working a season in Meribel and has had a terribly tough few months. My plan to go out and stay with her for free seemed ideal to enable me to ski this season, as I am missing my family ski trip (still at uni) and I only get one week of holiday at Easter which is already taken up with prior commitments. At uni, Wednesday is a half day (lectures until 12) so I was hoping to fly out from Stansted Wednesday PM and then fly back sometime Sunday. Shockingly, the flight prices on Sundays are MEGA!! I was so surprised Sad So I then thought I could fly back early Monday morning and if needs be, miss my first lecture. However, this cunning plan was foiled as getting to the airport from Meribel on a Monday morning seems nigh impossible on a student budget!!

Consequently, the dilemma boils down to two options:
1) Fly out Wed - Sun. Pay £400+ for flights.
2) Fly out Wed - Mon. Pay £100-ish for flights.

The next fun part is transfers.......any recommendations for public transfers to Meribel from Geneva/Lyon. I really can't afford private transfers, which worries me re a Monday departure. When I worked my season, any guests I had come and visit me were allowed to hop onto our company transfers wherever there was space, free of charge. Unfortunately my friend works for a very upmarket company and apparently that is not allowed (I even promised to dress up! Laughing ). Or even anyone heading out to Meribel 23rd Jan - 27/28th Jan and has space for 1 in their transfer, to help split costs??

Thank you!

@ballyellie, have you also looked at Sunday flights back to other UK airports? Might be cheaper (£400 is indeed a lot!).

Train & bus, if it works with flight times?

Train station at the airport for Geneva; to Moutiers will probably involve at least two changes. For Lyon get the express tram to Lyon Part-Dieu, and then probably either a direct train or one change.

Scheduled buses from Moutiers station.

@ballyellie, being a student I assumed that you have already tried https://www.blablacar.co.uk/ to see if there are any lifts at least to a railway station such as Chambery.

I like the Tartiflette /Tarentaise mash-up there @pam w, if that's what it is?

It does make it feel like being back there eating it, location and food dish all rolled into one. Very Happy

FYI, www.snowexpress.co.uk do a £109 coach, student return from London to Meribel departing on Friday evenings, returning Saturday evenings. The Tarentaise Transfers Notice Board FB Group is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/850771538271311/?ref=br_rs . Bensbus.co.uk run cheaper transfers from Lyon, Grenoble and Geneva than Altibus but only at weekends.
