Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski advice for my son

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi, I would appreciate some help in determining the right kind of ski set up for my son.
He has just turned 12 and has size 9 feet, I am not sure how this will work with a junior set up ?? Would he be better of with ladies ?
I was hoping to get him some new skis for Christmas and don't want to be wasting my money.
He is around 156 cm and has ski'd since he was 3 years old so is very competent.
Thanks for any help you may be able to give
Brett

@bert7cosby, how do the skis know how old he is or how tall he is?

Isn’t he a bit young for the ladies? Maybe not in his own eyes... mind you, at his age it’s not as though you’ll need to be hanging around outside the knocking shop for long Twisted Evil

What does he weigh?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

My concern really is that junior boots as far as I can tell don't go that big.
He weighs 43kg
Thanks

@bert7cosby, that could be an issue.

And in that case, he’ll need “adult” bindings I believe, as toe and heel sizing is different.

He’s probably out of kids kit ranges anyway.

@bert7cosby, just get him mens boots that aren’t too stiff given his (low) weight. If he’s a decent skier at that age / height have a look at the Faction junior range which a lot of the youngsters are on here.

Buy size 9 adult man boots with custom footbeds and 150cm advanced all-mountain skis.

No women's kit. Unless he is going trans.
