Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Touring in Lofoten. Anyone have any insights ?

Two of us are heading to Lofoten next April for some ski touring. We are booked to join a boat with guides going from Svolvær to Tromsø but will have a few days before to ski in Lofoten. We are flying into Svolvær and will have a hire car. Does anyone have any recommendations how to find a local mountain guide there for a couple of days. We’ve checked out a couple of the lodges that offer guiding as part of their packages but they are either super expensive or fully booked. Any snowheads out there who know the area and can provide some advice on accommodation and ski touring options as well if we can’t get a guide ? Any advice and help appreciated.

Have you searched for previous Lofoten threads? There are several, and will help you link to the folk who know. Not to mention see some stupendous photos.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Norway is one of the richest countries on Earth.

Everything is expensive.

Try the tourist office (if not already).

If you can’t find a guide and are reasonably clued up about backcountry safety etc, get a copy of “Lofoten-Skiing in the Magic Islands”
It has the classics many of which are quite straightforward from a navigation point of view and have manageable terrain. The weather can be very unpredictable however so don’t get caught out especially if your navigation isn’t up to scratch
Also, search this forum for some inspiration

The main insight I have is about clothing. It can be bloody cold in Norway in March. If you haven't been before, it's hard to imagine - I just thought it would be normal ski touring weather, but it's more like January in the high alps (or it was for us when we went!). At the very least bring a heavy duty puffa to put on the moment you get to the top in order to survive the transitions without dying of hypothermia.
