Not sure if this is a first - but for all the avid WC ski racing fans I am going to start a thread for the season with the aim of keeping it up to date as the season progresses
Due to COVID, the FIS have decided that all of this years races will take place in Europe with the exception of the ladies scheduled to travel to Yanqing CN for the 2022 Winter Olympics dress rehearsal. Sad to see the cancellation of the North American tour this year and no stops in Lake Louise, Beaver Creek and Killington

Where to Watch
Quote:
UK + Europe: https://www.eurosportplayer.com/ - signup required £6.99 per month, annual options available - Blackfriday offer running - new accounts £19.99 for a years access expires 30th November
Alternative is to sign-up to Eurosport through Amazon - you can only access through Amazon video to watch not through the Eurosport player - the only advantage is if they are running the £0.01 per month new subscriber promo
If you're in Europe the below broadcasters cover the races, otherwise a VPN will be needed for access - they are all free to view
CH https://www.srf.ch/play/tv
UK:https://www.eurosportplayer.com/ - signup required £6.99 per month, annual options available
Alternative is to sign-up to Eurosport through Amazon - you can only access through Amazon video to watch not through the Eurosport player - the only advantage is if they are running the £0.01 per month new subscriber promo
Does this mean that if you have amazon Prime that you can watch the racing with no further subscription?

Who’s covering in France? Online ideally?
Thanks!
Eurosport own the transmission rights in France from what I am recall (95% certain of this) - there was discontent a few years back that none of the terrestrial stations were broadcasting

@extremerob, cheers. I will check what's in my SFR subs

Simple answer is no
To clarify:
Amazon sell within their platform subscriptions to access content - they call these "Channels" so you have Eurosport, Discovery, HBO, Showtime and many others. You can only access this content though through the amazon video website/app.
Over the past years amazon have sold access to the Eurosport channel for £0.01 per month as a new subscriber promo, which is much cheaper than the £6.99 option of buying the Eurosport Player option.
There is a big drawback to the amazon route: - You can not access the Eurosport player app, - everything has to be done through Amazon and amazon only give access "from what I recall" to live streaming on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 - the Eurosport player route has access to further transmissions. Via the Eurosport Player route there is a significant backlog of previous events, the catalogue of past sporting events on Amazon is limited. Another drawback is if using smart TVs with a built in amazon app - it may not support live streaming of Eurosport - I found this was the case for me on an 8 year old Samsung smart tv, and I have heard other people voicing the same concern - though with no Eurosport Player app available for the TV it didn't make much difference for me.
I would suggest that if you don't get access to the £0.01 promo and your smart TV has access to the Eurosport Player to go down the Eurosport direct route - if you have a look at the comments on Amazon there are quite a few people upset with the amazon route.

Another way to watch is to use a satellite dish, point the dish at 19.2E and German Eurosport is available unencrypted. Some races are also on DasErste or ZDF in HD.

@extremerob, Thanks for that comprehensive answer. Just but a new Smart TV and have the Eurosport Player app installed just not subscribed yet. There seems to be a subscription for £39.99 for 12 months (possibly special promo for new subscribers) so will go down that route. Cheers
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I've got a couple of years old Samsung Smart TV that won't run the Eurosport Player app, however with a £20 Chromecast unit from Amazon I can run the Eurosport player on my smartphone and send it to my TV.
You know it makes sense.

For the last 2 years, Eurosport have done a deal on Black Friday for a half-price 12 month subscription. Worth waiting for if it happens but no guarantee that it will this year.

If you can't find a Eurosport app that runs on your TV then as I said in my previous post you can always run it on a smartphone and send it to your TV using a Chromecast dongle.

Seems the app is Samsung only. Prime day next week so might see if the 4k Firestick is on offer

Unfortunately LG smart tv's don't support Eurosport player as an inbuilt app - my newer LG tv allows me to cast directly from my phone without using a chromecast dongle

From ESPN - International Ski Federation ousts top official Sarah Lewis
FIS announced the decision by its ruling council in a terse statement that gave no further details.
OBERHOFEN, SWITZERLAND -- The International Ski Federation removed its top administrator from her job on Friday citing a "complete loss of confidence."
Sarah Lewis, an expected candidate in the FIS presidential election postponed to June, had been secretary general of skiing's governing body for 20 years.

There is also the Ski World Cup Discussion Group on FB which runs virtual leagues. It was started by our very own Samerberg Sue and has many members who are involved in ski racing (and SHs). It has been recognised by the FIS too so I wonder if they are doing this on the back of that?
@holidayloverxx, yes it's a little similar to the PPP game. Last year there was a totally rubbish fantasy team game which I totally gave up with, but AFAIK it was nothing to do with FIS. Not sure if Fantasy Ski Racer is still running, one of the Nymans set that up.

Still, at least Nick Fellows has improved his pronunciation of "Brignone" and even apologised when he slipped back into his old ways for a moment. He still hasn't got it right though.

Great start to the season and Soelden looked spectacular for this time of the year!
Congrats to Marta, Federica and Petra!
You could really tell that Petra was disappointed in herself after the second run charge and finishing 10th after the first run

Maggi I feel you. I pay for the virgin xl package so that I can watch skiing and biathlon, Been waiting eight months for a competition and what does Eurosport do... they don’t show the second leg... so annoying.
Anyway , well done to Marta, she has been the bridesmaid a few times now, nice to see her on top.
So pleased that my favourite Sofia Goggia is back, I missed her , she makes women skiing exciting.
@Harrow lady, I pay for the Virgin package so I can watch skiing and figure skating so I was gutted last season when Eurosport didn't buy the rights to show the skating .
I, too, haven't looked at Eurosport all summer.
Great race though and the snow looked so inviting. Can't wait for tomorrow, now.

Good old Eurosport has extended my subscription by 5 months to March due to lack of summer sports on. So pretty much covers this ski season as well as last, which is all I really get it for.

Another great race today with a podium of fresh faces, and a huge congrats to Norwegian newcomer Lucas Braathen taking his first win and podium with 20 years of age - as he rightly said in his post race interview it's the start of a new generation of racers.
Kristoffersen failed to deliver again at Soelden, and Pinterault made a costly error in the opening turns that placed him in 4th +0.49s from the leader, but an even more painful 0.03s off from a top 3 finish.

Signed up to the 7 day trial of eurosports player to catch the last 10 or so racers in the mens second leg. Great skiing Braathen to take the win, you could see how ecstatic he was just to get on the podium let alone winning!
