Do any of you kind Snowheads know of a good foot specialist in the South East area (London/ Oxfordshire/similar)? It's for a friend who has been suffering with stress fractures in both his feet for two years now, seemingly with no solution in sight. Many thanks in advance!!

@genepi, very helpful, thank you very much! I’m sure he’d go pretty much anywhere within reason to sort it out...

Prof Mark Tagoe has a private clinic and works for the NHS at West Middlesex Hospital. Well regarded apparently, although not a skier (his advice when I consulted him was "no problem, just stop skiing" )

Martin Klinke at London bridge. Did a great job on my trashed ankle. Highly experienced and also a lovely manner

@alangibson73, I think two years down the line, he'd be grateful to even walk normally!

@vjmehra, thank you! His problem is that the fractures haven’t fused over the last two years, and his current consultant says there’s nothing they can do because the bones are two small. So the poor man is limping around essentially on broken bones and his muscles are atrophying because he can’t do heavy load bearing exercise... sounds pretty awful!

I’ve onky ever had surgery once and it’s early days, but the surgeon is based on Harley Street which I always assume is a reasonable indicator he knows what he’s doing

I have used Ron McCulloch in Lewisham who is a podiatric surgeon. He was team GBs foot guy for the 2012 Olympics and is good with sports injuries. I have never had surgery with him but have had good outcomes from the other treatments he has prescribed for me.
David Gordon, an orthapaedic surgeon, specialising in feet did a fifth metatarsal osteotomy and a cheilectomy on the first metatarsal for me and they are both really neat jobs. I am very happy with the outcome. He offers minimally invasive surgery, which most don't for the things I needed done.
I would see Mr McCulloch first. I would not go the surgery route on feet unless it is absolutely necessary as even if your surgeon is great, it seems to be a lottery. I don't know what he will recommend but he was cautious in his treatment path for my condition.
It would not surprise me if there are surgical and non surgical options out there. NHS podiatry is a bomb site in London and they will not treat you until something is very severely wrong.

vjmehra - holidayloverxx is quite right, a consulting room in Harley Street means abolutely nothing more than the fact the medic can afford the rent. Much better to seek treatment from someone who is recommended by people you know and trust. BorntoRun I do hope your friend can find someone who can help him and he can get back to normal life.

If someone has been practising on Harley Street for a number of years I'd wager its a pretty good sign. Aside from anything else, I'd imagine mistakes are quite costly in the medical profession and if you made a few you wouldn't be able to afford the rent for long!
But yes of course, no-one should pick a random guy off the internet without doing some basic checks!
