Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snow shovel

I need a snow shovel, not a lightweight one for my rucksack, but a big one, long wooden handle, shiny metal blade, like the one the lifities use and every hotel and chalet in the mountains uses.

Not having much luck on google.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, or tell me what I should be searching for?

For UK use l'd suggest a steel coal shovel with a longer handle. Strong enough to shift frozen snow. The old timers reccommend smearing it with diesel to prevent the snow from sticking. Very Happy

Here in Norway, Fiskars have a large range available in every hardware shop. I have no idea where in the UK you can get them.

The ones that the lifties use are the Magne brand, you can get them at the Point P chain of builders merchants.

Light Aluminium shovels are good for moving new snow but not strong enough for breaking up the refrozen stuff.

@1 guest, I know exactly what you want. I have five. They are all in the garage in CH. You can get them easily form maibillard general store in our village for 35chf. However I recognise that you can’t get easily to our village.

This?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chelwood-Aluminium-Snow-Shovel-Quality-Stainless-Steel-Reinforced-45cm-x-45cm/183465283270?hash=item2ab7620ec6:g:3wIAAOSwi-dbs3xV

Or this

Note that it’s the slightly wider version, of which we have one. Not so good for manic digging, but good for pushing and moving uncompacted snow. For that you need something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiskars-Alu-Schneeschieber-44-Cm-Snow-Shovel-Snow-Shovel-Snow-Winter/223108709003?epid=1917479981&hash=item33f250ba8b:g:LVcAAOSwDfJaI~cF

There you go.

@1 guest, your google skillz are clearly lacking.

Search “snow shovel”, select “images” hundreds of the things. Admittedly not mostly metal.

And do you want a shovel or a pusher? I’d think a pusher more useful, most of the time.

Fiskars tools of all kinds are the nuts, my mum's been using the same pair of kitchen scissors made by them for a good forty years. Clas Ohlson sell a few lines of theirs, although I couldn't recall whether that includes shovels.
