We tend to go skiing 3 or 4 times every winter. Despite having a baby now, we try not to change our lifestyle...I did say "try"...
For a full ski week, I heard about the specialised tour operators with childcare available, the likes of club med or "kinder hotels" in Austria but it doesn't really work for weekends because the nurseries tend to be closed on saturdays (changeover days) or do not take weekend bookings.
So, how do people do?
I'm looking for recommendations in ski resorts suitable for a weekend (60-90mn drive from the airport, good flight timings, etc).
Alps of course, but happy to hear tips on Andorra/Pyrenees too!

@Cedrick, mmmmm never tried it for the reasons you mention. Friend take their nanny or family member to babysit. Otherwise you could try a specialist one off provider and ask to pay for day off child care. You might well find someone especially in low season.

Yes, I agree - take friend or nanny with you. IME as babies get older they get more fussy about who is looking after them. And harder to cope with, travelling - little ones who can't climb out of things, and who don't insist on crawling on filthy floors or hurling themselves down steps are very easy. Then it gets harder for a couple of years.
A better idea might be to leave baby behind..... with trusted carer.

humm, ok, that's more complicated than i initially thought! family is abroad (actually, im the "expat" in the family) and I don't have a nanny as my kid goes to nursery. Just out of curiosity, when you guys say "taking the nanny with me", you mean pay for her transport/accommodation, etc? in that case, the weekend becomes suddenly very expensive

Cheeky monkeys morzine and other similar english run companies provide flexible childcare in resorts such as les gets and morzine. A nanny coming to the chalet with toys etc works out about 100 euros a day (that was 2 seasons ago though)

Try these guys - http://www.alpine-child-care.co.uk/ - essentially you place an add and they have people respond, though are checked etc
You can also try some of the nanny companies in larger resorts. T4 Nannies; Jellybeans, they may be able to provide halfweek/cover.
A word of caution is that depending on your accommodation you may not be able to have a nanny. Some chalet's wont allow your nanny to be in chalet without you being in the chalet - we now just self cater and have private accommodation and hire a nanny for the week.

She would be working, of course you would pay for her transport and accommodation!

Indeed. That's why most of us found that we couldn't exactly maintain our lifestyle unchanged when kids came along.

Using an in resort agency like T4 Nannies for a week costs around £900. That bus 6 x 8 hours of childcare at £18.75 per hour. Outside of the really busy period they are flexible and will look to help if they can. They are more plentiful in the larger resorts than smaller resorts so Morzine, Tignes, Val, 3 Vallees, La Plagne, Les Arcs all should have 3 or 4 agencies that can assist.
