Couple with a 4 year old daughter.
How does Arc 1800 sound?
We're sort of happy with accommodation options (bearing in mind it's a little late - my work took 2 months to decide whether I could have unpaid leave or not).
We're happy with ski school options.
We're happy with other 'things' like swimming pools and so on, to occupy child.
We're happy with the level of skiing available for us (we've both worked seasons before, so pretty good skiers).
We're a bit stuck on childcare after the first 2 weeks (she'll do morning ski school for those).
Does Pomme de Pin still exist? Is there an option somewhere else that we could use the navette to get to?
Any opinion/waffly info/contact names and numbers etc are welcome. If you think other parts of the Alps might be better for later in the season, then please offer suggestions!!

Certainly a big enough area for the oldies..
Your challenge will be to 'keep it fresh for your daughter, there is nothing worse than the stress of trying to re-ignite the interest of your children once its gone.
Get a list/bank of other things to do and scatter them throughout your stay or day.

@Flora2, first, great idea to take 8 weeks with your daughter at her age. We did a 3 month tour when our son was the same age, including 4 weeks skiing in USA. Best time ever!
Personally I’d want at least 2, maybe 3 different locations in 8 weeks. For late season, I’d have 3 or 4 weeks up the hill at Val
D’Isere. Likely better snow, bit more challenge, good facilities in town.
Another option for a change of scene would be the snowHeads family bash, Val Thorens for a week in mid April. Great value and ideal for your daughter to show off her new skills to new friends maybe?

We were aiming for one place because our child is a diabolical sleeper - she takes ages to get used to a place, and we don't want to have to go through the awful 3 nights of a new place more than once (maybe twice) in the 8 weeks.
We've got friends in Landry - so has child, so that's helpful in keeping her engaged.
I've worked in both Val d'Isere and Val Thorens, hence wanting to go somewhere else - also I'm not sure about the beginners side of things for her in VD. VT much more expensive for accomm we're finding.

@Flora2, Yes to Arc 1800.
The Mile8 is good for a 4 year old (swimming, sledging ect) the local slopes are good for little children and the more distant ones would suit adults. You can easily get the Navette to 1600 and the funicular down to Bourg if you want big supermarkets etc.
I have lost contact with child care but there certainly used to be in Arc1600 when my son was that age. A French creche would certainly enhance her language skills

Not sure what you mean by "late" lots of accommodation has not been released yet (including mine - I must get around to that). If anything you are searching a bit early.

Really? Interesting...
I started looking to see what prices were back in February just as a 'can we afford to do this' type thing, and things were much cheaper than they are now. I thought that because it was all getting more expensive that we'd missed the boat.
We haven't confirmed anything yet - mostly because finding 5 weeks in a row in one place seems to be tricky.
When do you reckon is a good time to start looking?

@Flora2, yes, understand your thinking.
I think either 1800 or 1600 suitable. The former has more going on. 1600 gives easier access to Bourg St Maurice. Easy enough to get from 1600 to 1800 and back by free bus, for sports centre etc.
My own sleep is disturbed at altitude, much more so once at or above 1800m. Does altitude affect any of you sleep wise? Maybe important for an 8 week stay.

Good one to check. We took child to 1700m this last half term and she was fine. Wonder if it changes at 1800m. We're both fine at altitude.

@Flora2, arc 1800 is mostly at 1700m. Iirc the plague on the vagere lift says 1730m. Most of the resort is below the lift.
